The Padres and Mariners will play the third and final game of their series on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Seattle is a -138 moneyline favorite, while San Diego is +114 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at over/under eight runs.
Here’s my prediction and pick for Wednesday’s Padres vs. Mariners matchup.
Padres vs. Mariners prediction
This series finale will feature two big name pitchers. Yu Darvish will start for the Padres, while Bryan Woo will get the call for the Mariners.
Woo earned his first All-Star appearance this season and has been an impressive right hander for a couple years now. He has a 2.94 ERA through 159 innings, while striking out 9.1 batters per nine innings this season.
The 25-year-old has had an incredible August, owning a 2.08 ERA through four starts. He’s pitched at least six frames in all four outings, with two finishing at seven innings. Woo allowed just one earned run in three of the four games, with the exception being a three-run performance against the Rays.
Darvish is past his prime, holding a 5.36 ERA through nine starts this season. He has, however, had two good starts in his past three performances. He pitched six innings of one-run ball in both outings — one against the Giants and the other against the Dodgers.
It’s somewhat promising, but the Mariners have a great offense spearheaded by Cal Raleigh. He just recently hit his 50th home run of the season, and there’s no evidence that he’ll stop his record-breaking season any time soon.
Padres vs. Mariners pick, best bet
It would be a treat to see a pitcher’s duel between Darvish and Woo, but it’s unlikely that Darvish puts together another solid outing.
I’m expecting much more from Woo, who has been terrific in August. Mariners moneyline is the play. It’s a bit expensive at -138, but I’m confident in Seattle.
