Two of the worst WNBA teams will meet one last time in the 2025 season. The Wings and Sun will play in Dallas on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Connecticut is a three-point favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook. The over/under is set at 163.5 points.
Here’s my prediction and pick for Wednesday’s Wings vs. Sun matchup.
Wings vs. Sun prediction
If you’re looking for winning basketball, turn away — this is not the game for you. The Wings and Sun are both below 10 wins and are fighting for the worst record in the league.
This has been the case all season. Neither team is dealing with major injuries or player absences — they’re both just having bad seasons. That doesn’t mean there can’t be some betting opportunities here.
The Wings feature one of the most exciting players in the league: Paige Bueckers. She’s questionable for this contest as she deals with an illness. If she plays, the Wings will have a significant advantage, but also it means the Sun have a clear gameplan: stop Bueckers from scoring.
If that means Connecticut needs to double or triple team Bueckers, it will do just that. She’s proven to be capable of scoring in bunches, most recently pouring in 44 points against the Sparks.
Teams have begun to recognize her scoring prowess and throw multiple defenders at her. It doesn’t help that Arike Ogunbowale is sidelined, making Bueckers the only threat on offense. She scored 11 and nine points in her two most recent games.
The Sun aren’t intimidating at all, but at least they’re winning games. Connecticut has won four of its last six, with the two losses being within single digits. Dallas, on the other hand, has lost 10 of its last 11.
Wings vs. Sun pick, best bet
Bueckers may be the future of the WNBA, but the Sun are hot right now. It’s a strange thing to say about a 9-28 team, but it’s the truth. They’ve been playing well, and have the blueprint to slow down Bueckers: double and triple team her.
Ogunbowale is expected to be out again, making Bueckers the only offensive threat. That is, of course, if she plays. She’s questionable with an illness.
Connecticut wins and covers the three-point spread regardless if Bueckers is available.
