With the final week of the NFL Preseason in full swing, there are still questions to answer as the remainder of games take place throughout Saturday’s slate. In the afternoon window, the Green Bay Packers welcome the Seattle Seahawks to Lambeau Field for a game which puts a potential starting-quarterback-in-waiting on display.
Here’s a prediction and pick for Saturday’s Packers vs. Seahawks matchup at 4 p.m. EST.
Packers vs. Seahawks prediction, preview
Green Bay Packers
Out at Lambeau, the Packers enter this week with 1-1 record in the NFL Preseason thus far. While they fell 30-10 to the New York Jets to open the schedule, Green Bay beat the Indianapolis Colts 23-19 last week in a come-from behind win. The starters still haven’t seen much time, though Jordan Love threw five passes in the opening exhibition contest before spending last week on the sidelines.
Through the first two games, Malik Willis and Taylor Elgersma have split time at quarterback. They’ve provided similar yardage totals with 122 and 133 yards, respectively, but Willis has completed just 43.5% of his passes compared to 66.7% for Elgersma. If this continues, it looks like the latter will win the starting job. The battle for depth roles at halfback should prove intriguing as Amar Johnson boasts 89 carries and two scores on just 14 carries, while Israel Abanikanda has tallied 62 yards and one score on 18 attempts. With Emmanuel Wilson likely the RB2 and Marshawn Lloyd dealing with an injury, that third-string job could be open. At pass catcher, the Packers have truly spread the ball around — Cornelius Johnson and Mecole Hardman are two names who’ve stood out.
Seattle Seahawks
On the other side, the Seahawks are 1-0-1 over their schedule so far. Seattle achieved a rare tie with the Las Vegas Raiders with a 23-23 final score to start things off, then downed the Kansas City Chiefs 33-16 last week. Drew Lock spent his time under center absolutely dealing in that one, completing 10-of-12 passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns while adding 34 yards on the ground. However, he won’t see the field on Saturday, and nor will the starters.
Instead, 2025 third-round pick Jalen Milroe will get the starting nod and play the full game, at least according to the team’s initial plans. The Alabama product has seen limited action thus far, completing 9-of-15 passes for 107 yards without a touchdown or interception. However, he’s added eight carries for 56 yards as well — just like in college, Milroe displayed impressive athleticism which stands out as his best trait, especially for a quarterback. He does have arm talent, though his processing of the game needs some work if scouts are to be believed. With decent draft capital, he could become the future starter down the line if Seattle can develop him. Elsewhere on the field, wideout Tory Horton has stood out with four catches for 43 yards and a touchdown, while George Holani boasts 110 yards and a score on 12 carries. It would be nice to see Damien Martinez get some touches, though.
Packers vs. Seahawks pick, best bet
The Packers enter as three-point favorites with -170 odds on the Moneyline via DraftKings Sportsbook. The Seahawks are listed as +142 underdogs with a game total of 36.5 points.
As established by now, betting on the NFL Preseason brings unique challenges due to the unpredictable nature of snap counts and which players actually see the field. However, there’s still value out there in betting markets — and important storylines to follow as coaching staffs prepare to make their final roster cuts.
How Milroe fares in this one should prove very interesting. On one hand, he absolutely possesses the athletic traits to succeed at the professional level. The guy rushed for 33 touchdowns with Alabama, including 20 in 2024 alone. Plus, he posted a 4.40 40-yard dash and brings game-changing ability on designed runs as well as scramble drills. In the setting of the NFL Preseason, those traits can prove quite fruitful and be enough to secure a win if he puts up a big game, even with some questionable reads via the passing game. I’m banking on Milroe putting on a show against the Packers’ deeper roster spots.
