The final week of NFL Preseason is upon us as the Eagles and Jets face off on Friday, Aug. 22. The two 1-1 teams are a part of a four-game slate on Friday.
New York is a 2.5-point favorite and -125 on the moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at over/under 34.5 points.
Here’s my prediction and pick for Friday’s Eagles vs. Jets matchup.
Eagles vs. Jets prediction
The Eagles enter this final preseason game with two different performances thus far. The first outing was great, winning 34-27 against the Bengals. Tanner McKee played terrific, completing 20-of-25 passes for 252 yards and three total touchdowns.
The week after, Philadelphia lost 22-13 to the Eagles with just 55 total passing yards between Kyle McCord and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. It’s not a promising game, but the Eagles aren’t looking for a stud quarterback to backup Jalen Hurts.
Like the Eagles, the Jets also had two opposite performances, defeating the Packers 30-10 before losing to the Giants 31-12. Adrian Martinez was the primary quarterback in both games, looking to prove his worth as a backup to Justin Fields.
Martinez is likely going to play most of the game yet again, which gives the Jets a familiar face under center. He hasn’t been outstanding in either performance, but this will be a chance to make some waves.
Eagles vs. Jets pick, best bet
It’s unlikely that both teams struggle offensively even if it’s all backups playing. Backups are hungry to prove they belong on the roster, so they’ll be playing hard.
The total is too low at 34.5 points. Both teams have scored 30-plus points on their own this preseason, so it’s certainly possible it happens again.
