One of the most iconic Air Max sneakers of all time is coming back like sneakerheads have never seen it before, as the Nike SB Air Max 95 “Cactus Flower” is set to drop on Friday for a retail price of $185.

After successful Nike SB takes on the Air Jordan 4 (Pine Green in 2023 and Navy Blue earlier this year), the skate brand now reimagines the legendary Air Max 95.
Originally designed by Sergio Lozano, the Air Max 95 took inspiration from the human body mimicking ribs, muscles and vertebrae. Additionally, its use of gradient colors on the upper is another signature element, which has continued to define the classic, especially on the OG Neon colorway which returned earlier this year in a “Big Bubble” variation which was more true to the original model back in 1995.
This Nike SB collab on the Air Max 95 most certainly will not be utilizing that Big Bubble build, as the need for boardfeel requires a closer to the ground construction. SNKRS also notes that the Nike SB team also pivoted from the synthetic materials of the original to include “suede and leather materials the squad loves to skate.” SNKRS also notes that “the SB Air Max 95 features a lighter construction with flexible materials for boardfeel and the functionality skateboarding needs.” Along those lines, the insole was modified for closer board contact and herringbone lugs were added to the gum outsole for increased traction.
All those changes have resulted in a shoe that looks as good as it should like skate for those so inclined. Instead of the dark to light gradient from bottom up that we see in the OG Neon colorway, the SB Air Max 95 takes us from a summit white midsole to a similar suede, to a light grey suede to a dark grey suede and finally to top layer made of black leather. Above that we get a white mesh layer over Cactus Flower lace loops and black mesh. That Cactus Flower color accent is also seen on the Nike Swoosh, the Air Max logo on the tongue and the Nike SB-branded insole. If you’re a WWE fan, the color blocking is reminiscent of the legendary Bret “Hitman” Hart.
The Nike SB Air Max 95 already had a limited drop earlier this month at select skate shops, and currently has an average price on StockX of $235 on 703 sales over the last three months. That’s not a huge increase from the retail price of $185, but perhaps it could be a result of knowing this larger SNKRS drop is going down on Friday. That aftermarket price doesn’t change the fact that these are sure to sell out and will likely be a sneaker of the year contender.
Best of luck to all looking to pick up a pair!
