The Dallas Wings haven’t enjoyed much success this season, sitting third-to-last in the WNBA league standings at just 9-26. However, expectations weren’t ever that high to begin with as the franchise just held the No. 1 pick last offseason, and they’ve certainly found a star with the player they took at that spot.

The Wings do have to feel great about selecting Bueckers in the 2025 WNBA Draft. The first-overall pick has largely lived up to expectations as a rookie, averaging 18.8 points per game on 45.8% shooting from the field. Her three-point percentage of 31.0% does sit a little lower than what she’s capable of, but the UConn product brings plenty of other production to make up for it as well. Aside from leading her team in scoring, Bueckers also paces the roster with 5.4 assists and 1.7 steals, plus she adds 4.1 boards per night on average.
The 23-year-old absolutely looks like a franchise player and has been one of few bright spots throughout a difficult campaign in Dallas. She’s posted 20 or more points in 14 of her 28 appearances and earned her first WNBA All-Star nod as well.
Tonight, Bueckers and the Wings travel to the West Coast for a matchup with the Kelsey Plum’s Sparks. It sets up a high-scoring affair with the game total set at 182.5 points on DraftKings Sportsbook, a line which makes plenty of sense for a meeting between the two worst defenses in the WNBA based on opponent points per game. Both sides rank top-four in pace as well, so it looks like there will be plenty of shot attempts to begin with.
Bueckers only suited up against the Sparks once thus far, a matchup which came in a 97-96 loss last Friday. Still, the rookie dropped a cool 29 points, four rebounds and five assists while shooting 12-for-21 from the field. Given the way she took advantage of a poor Los Angeles defense, I fully expect her to put up at least 20 points tonight in her second opportunity.
