What Happened to Landen Roupp? Live injury updates for Giants vs. Padres 8/20/25

It’s been an unfortunate injury season for Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp. He looked like a great starter right up until right elbow inflammation knocked him out for nearly a month. In his first start back, he gave up five runs over three innings. After giving up three more over 2.1 innings tonight against the Padres, injury struck once again. This time in a much scarier fashion.

Be warned: this isn’t a fun one to watch.

The initial ball striking Roupp didn’t cause the injury, but his legs landed awkwardly underneath him as he tried to get his footing back. He had to be carted off by San Francisco’s training staff. Joey Lucchesi entered the game as his replacement and immediately surrendered a three-run home run, adding two more runs to Roupp’s line, adding insult to injury.

With just over a month left in the season, any degree of serious injury would end his season. The Giants are well outside the playoff picture and won’t be motivated to rush him back. It would be an unfortunate way to end a breakout season for the 26-year-old.

Before the injuries struck, Roupp had a 3.11 ERA across 101.1 innings and 20 starts. He was an essential bridge in the Giants’ rotation behind twin aces Logan Webb and Robbie Ray. They’ll be hoping for the best as they look to turn the page on a lost season.

We’ll provide more updates on Roupp’s injury status as they come along.
