MLB Picks and Player Props August 19, 2025
San Diego Padres over 4.5 (-115) vs. San Francisco Giants
Kai-Wei Teng is making his fourth start for the Giants tonight, but success has been hard to come by. Over 10 innings, he’s posted a 9.90 ERA with a 4.90 xERA and a 5.52 FIP. His command has been erratic, as he’s already issued eight walks in that span. While he leans heavily on breaking pitches, they haven’t been fooling hitters. Both his sweeper and curveball—thrown a combined 47% of the time—have been crushed, allowing a .401 wOBA and .394 wOBA, respectively. The Padres, meanwhile, have handled both offerings well against right-handed pitching this season. Even with the small sample size, it’s difficult to imagine Teng avoiding trouble against San Diego tonight.
Roman Anthony over 1.5 total bases (+105) vs. Baltimore Orioles
Tomoyuki Sugano takes the mound for the Orioles tonight at Fenway Park, and left-handed hitters have consistently given him trouble. He’s been hit for a .342 wOBA, a 5.34 FIP, and has surrendered 13 of the 21 home runs he’s allowed to lefties. Anthony has shown plenty of power lately, recording at least two total bases in eight of his 14 games this August. Sugano relies heavily on variations of his fastball, but that plays into Anthony’s strengths. Against both the four-seamer and sinker, Anthony has posted a wOBA of at least .398.
Hunter Greene over 7.5 strikeouts (+100) vs. Los Angeles Angels
Greene returned to the Reds’ rotation last week in a tough matchup against the Phillies, and he responded with six shutout innings while striking out six against a team that rarely goes down on strikes. Tonight, he draws the complete opposite in the Angels, who have one of the highest strikeout rates in baseball against right-handed pitching. As a team, they own a 25.8% K%, tied with the Rockies for the highest mark in the league. The projected lineup could feature as many as five hitters with individual strikeout rates above 25% versus righties. While eight strikeouts is a lofty target, Greene has both the stuff and the matchup to get there.
Good luck with your MLB picks and player props for August 19, 2025!
