Miami Marlins vs. St. Louis Cardinals prediction, pick for Monday 8/18/25

Eury Pêrez and Matthew Liberatore face off in south Florida to kick off this interdivision NL series. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday night baseball game between the Marlins and the Cardinals.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Marlins vs. Cardinals prediction, preview

Pérez arrives with 3.58 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 25.2% strikeouts, punishing mistakes with premier ride and late hop. He owns a 2.08 home ERA across four starts, and his fly-ball profile fits this cavernous yard. Liberatore counters with a 4.08 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, modest 17.6% strikeouts, and sharp 5.6% walks that steady innings. His road line strengthens the case: 3.59 ERA in eleven road starts and only 0.92 homers per nine across contexts. Cardinals post a .297 wOBA and .145 ISO over the last seven days; Miami posts .318 and .164 in this span. Both lineups rank bottom-tier in homers, sitting 23rd and 25th, which aligns with a muted HR/FB here under this roof.

Over backers point to Miami’s late bursts and St. Louis bullpen volatility, especially after taxing series and travel. I erase that angle with run prevention roots and elite traffic control from Pérez’s 0.98 WHIP and strikeout finish. Liberatore’s 5.6% walk rate keeps freebies scarce and reduces crooked innings against contact-driven Miami lineups and speed. Roofed conditions and expansive gaps suppress carry and convert power to harmless outs in both alleys. Xavier Edwards sets the table, and Kyle Stowers punishes misses, yet both face disciplined zone work and elevation management. Alec Burleson supplies contact, and Willson Contreras drives gaps, but misfires draw grounders, not fireworks against Pérez.

Cardinals vs. Marlins pick, best bet

Miami is 15-4 to the under at home versus NL offenses slugging .390 or worse, and St. Louis qualifies. St. Louis trends 12-4 to the under on the road against sub-1.25 WHIP NL starters, and Pérez fits. The last series stayed eight or fewer runs in all three games, reinforcing the deliberate matchup cadence. Park run suppression and elevated pitcher efficiency connect every data point cleanly, so I fire on the under 7.5.

This handicap starts with Pérez’s precision and ends with Liberatore’s road competence again and home-run containment. The park strangles loft, and both offenses grade average for power across the season’s full sample again. Recent wOBA windows confirm measured contact, not relentless thunder, which directly firmly supports our path to cash. I win by shrinking innings, manufacturing empty bases, and trusting strikeout ceilings over volatile bats. Roof, depth, and staff traits converge toward suppression, not chaos, and the number still carries value. Bank it.

Best bet: Marlins vs. Cardinals u7.5 total runs (-110)
