The Boston Red Sox removed outfielder Wilyer Abreu ($4,000; 21 FPTS) from Sunday afternoon’s matchup against the Marlins. Abreu appeared to suffer an injury while scoring on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. The team announced that he was removed due to right calf tightness.
Abreu was also involved in the Red Sox’ first two runs of the game when he hit his 22nd homer of the year. The two-run shot gave the team a 2-1 lead that he extended to 3-1 by tagging up and coming in to score before leaving with the injury.
Abreu was replaced by Alex Bregman, who came in and resulted in a cascade of new positions all around the field. Abraham Toro moved to 1B, Romy Gonzalez slid over to 2B, Ceddanne Rafaela moved to CF, Jarren Duran shifted from CF to LF, and Roman Anthony moved into Abreu’s spot in RF.
The team will likely have more updates on Abreu’s status after the game, but the lefty has been very productive when available this season, hitting .253 with 22 homers and a .344 wOBA on the year.
