At the start of the day, Scottie Scheffler ($13,400; 120.5 FPTS) was four strokes behind Robert MacIntyre ($8,100; 105 FPTS), but Bobby Mac stumbled out of the gate with three bogeys in the first five holes. Scheffler surged past him with three birdies in the first seven holes to take the lead, and held on to win by two strokes.
Scheffler had a few uncharacteristic slip-ups and let MacIntyre hang around. He had just a one stroke lead coming into the 17th hole, but he had the shot of the tournament by chipping in for a memorable birdie after missing the green on the second-to-last hole.
He finished the day with six birdies, three bogeys, and a final-round 67. At the same time, MacIntyre had just one birdie to go with four bogeys for a closing 73. He still finished in solo second to move into the top 10 of the FedExCup standings.
Scheffler remains atop the standings coming into the final event for the third straight season. No starting strokes will be used this year, though, so the 30 players will all start with the same score in the race for a share of the $40 million purse at the TOUR Championship.
The win was Scheffler’s fifth victory of the season, adding the BMW Championship to his previous wins at The Open Championship, the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, the PGA Championship, and THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson.
Maverick McNealy ($7,500; 104 FPTS) finished third with Tommy Fleetwood ($10,400; 95.5 FPTS) and Sam Burns ($9,300; 97 FPTS) tied for fourth.
Harry Hall ($7,800; 83 FPTS) was the biggest mover on the week, highlighted by a chip-in on No. 17 of his own. He finished alone in sixth and climbed from outside the top 30 in the FedExCup playoffs to qualify for next week’s playoff finale.
In the PGA TOUR $800K SUMMER SAND TRAP [$200K TO 1ST], an entry from elidkatz1 finished in the top spot with 541.5 fantasy points. Fleetwood, MacIntyre, Hall, and McNealy were all in that entry, along with Akshay Bhatia ($8,200; 70 FPTS) and Rickie Fowler ($7,900; 84 FPTS). Bhatia and Fowler both made a push for the top 30, but Bhatia took the 30th and final spot while Fowler finished just short of the final event at No. 32 in the standings.
