Chargers WR Quentin Johnston was carted off the field in the first quarter of today’s preseason matchup with the Rams. Johnston took a huge hit when attempting to make a catch on a pass from Justin Herbert. The 23-year-old managed to get up under his own power and was taken to the locker room for further evaluation. This was just the third play from scrimmage in the matchup.
Johnston is entering his third season with the Chargers after an accomplished collegiate career at TCU. The former 21st overall pick has battled some drop issues during the early portion of his NFL career, with a 58.9% catch rate. Even still, he has tallied 1,142 yards and 10 touchdowns across his first two seasons. He finished last season ranked 39th among wide receivers with 180.7 fantasy points tallied and 12 per game based on DraftKings scoring.
With about three weeks until the regular season kicks off, this is a concerning hit to the Chargers. It was a positive sign to see him conscious and on his feet, but a scary sight following the hit nonetheless.
