What happened to Kyle Stowers? Live injury updates for Marlins vs. Red Sox 8/16/25

UPDATE: Following today’s game, Marlins manager Clayton McCullough spoke to reporters regarding the injury. Kyle Stowers has been diagnosed with a Grade-1 left side strain and is expected to miss several weeks.

With roughly an hour and a half to go before first pitch of the Miami Marlins’ game against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, a last-minute lineup change now shakes things up.

All-Star outfielder Kyle Stowers has been scratched from Miami’s lineup due to left side tightness. Per Christina De Nicola of MLB.com, Stowers felt it in his side during last night’s game and it lingered into today.

Stowers slashes .288/.368/.544 this season to earn his first NL All-Star appearance. He’s tallied 61 runs, 73 RBI and 25 homers on the season as a breakout contributor in the Marlins’ left field spot.

With Stowers now out, Heriberto Hernandez takes his place in the outfield against Boston on Saturday.

The Marlins are 14-14 since the All-Star Game with a 58-64 record on the season. They’re six games shy of a Wild Card spot, but have a chance to make a play for one over the stretch run.
