MLB Picks and Player Props August 15, 2025
Shea Langeliers 3+ H/R/RBI (+110) vs. Los Angeles Angels
With a lefty on the mound tonight for the Angels, Shea Langeliers should slide into the leadoff spot for the Athletics. He’s crushed southpaws all season, posting a .426 wOBA, a .239 ISO, and a 175 wRC+. Tonight, he and the A’s draw Yusei Kikuchi — a pitcher who not only profiles as a regression candidate but has already been showing cracks in the second half. Through 139 innings, Kikuchi carries a 3.11 ERA against a 4.31 xERA, and since the break, he’s been tagged for 14 runs (13 earned) on 34 hits, giving up a .368 wOBA.
While Kikuchi did have success against Oakland earlier this year, this lineup profiles well against left-handed pitching. The projected order for tonight combines for a .338 wOBA and a .203 ISO versus lefties. With Langeliers’ splits and his spot at the top of the order, he’s in an ideal position to rack up 3+ hits, runs, and RBIs.
Charlie Morton over 2.5 earned runs allowed (+100) vs. Minnesota Twins
I was a bit surprised to see even money for Morton to allow over 2.5 earned runs tonight. Yes, the Twins’ offense took a hit at the trade deadline, but Morton isn’t exactly mowing down lineups. Since the start of July, he’s made seven starts and has given up at least three earned runs in four of them—including his most recent outing against the Angels. Over that span, Morton has a 5.22 ERA, a .362 wOBA against, a 5.30 FIP, and a 1.8 HR/9. Both of his primary pitches—a curveball and a four-seam fastball—are getting hit hard. Opponents own a .383 wOBA against his curve and a .439 wOBA against his four-seam. I’m expecting anything but a clean outing tonight.
Houston Astros team total over 4.5 runs (-110) vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Astros begin a series against a struggling Orioles team tonight. Not only are the Orioles not hitting, but the pitching in particular has been a problem. Tonight, they’ll start Brandon Young, who hasn’t been as bad as his 6.70 ERA shows, but his 4.80 xERA is nothing to write home about either. Young his exhibited very shaky control as his 4.1 BB/9 shows and hasn’t been able to keep the ball in the yard with his 2.03 HR/9. The Astros are an excellent four-seam fastball hitting team, a pitch that opposing hitters have tagged Young’s for with a .349 wOBA.
Once Young departs, he’ll give way to an Orioles bullpen that has a combined 4.58 ERA with 4.1 BB/9 over the past week.
Good luck with your MLB picks and player props for August 15, 2025!
