Chicago White Sox vs. Detroit Tigers prediction, pick for Wednesday 8/13/25

Let’s get right to it for the afternoon slate, shall we? Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Wednesday night baseball game between the White Sox and the Tigers.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

White Sox vs. Tigers prediction, preview

Detroit’s lineup drives this handicap, not the mystery opener. The Tigers sit top ten in runs, average, slugging, and OPS. That profile travels, and it punishes contact-heavy staffs. Chicago’s staff owns a 4.16 ERA and ranks 25th in strikeouts per nine. That means balls in play, extra bases, and crooked numbers.

Riley Greene leads the charge with 27 homers and 87 RBIs. He’s carrying a .271 average and stacking loud contact. He also enters hot, batting .389 over his last five games. Spencer Torkelson adds 26 homers and lengthens every inning. Gleyber Torres brings a .267 average with 18 doubles and 59 walks, fueling Detroit’s on-base engine. Zach McKinstry’s .343 OBP and ten homers deepen the order and stress pitch counts.

Chicago supplies its share, too. Lenyn Sosa owns a .276 average with 14 homers and 48 RBIs. Andrew Benintendi leads with 14 homers and timely lift to right. Miguel Vargas brings 25 doubles and 13 homers into this matinee. Day-game signals are loud: Vargas has homered in two of his last three day appearances. Colson Montgomery’s call-up power and Edgar Quero’s three-RBI night raise the floor for secondary production.

Now the multiplier: Detroit’s bullpen game. The Tigers are leaning on an opener before Skubal’s Minnesota start. Their relief unit sits bottom half by ERA, FIP, xFIP, and WAR. August form confirms it with a 5.06 bullpen ERA. Chicago’s lineup doesn’t need excellence, just access. A parade of middle innings provides it.

Tigers vs. White Sox pick, best bet

Shane Smith faces the wrong offense at the wrong time. His season line shows a 4.22 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. The recent picture is uglier: 0-4 with an 8.78 ERA across seven starts. His 1.59 WHIP in that stretch feeds Detroit’s top-10 slug profile. Once Chicago turns to relief, the cliff arrives quickly. Their bullpen ranks 20th in FIP and 28th in xFIP.

I’ve heard the objections and steamrolled worse. “Smith blanked Detroit in June.” That was 5.1 innings and a scouting note. The Tigers are hitting .273 against Chicago this season. The book also whispers “White Sox offense lags.” True overall, but this handicap needs competence, not fireworks. Detroit’s bullpen grants it.

Betting context aligns with the thesis. Market posts 8.0 and 8.5 depending on your screen. Juice has leaned Over in divisional spots. Over is 7-3 in the last ten meetings. Over is 4-1 across Detroit’s last five division games. Rate Field boosts scoring with a 1.020 run factor and 1.058 home run factor. The forecast is warm and clean, which keeps carry alive.

Lock the play. Over 8 at -110, playable to 8.5 (-120).

Best bet: Tigers vs. White Sox o8.0 total runs (-120)
