Monday night’s MLB late slate includes a trio of games at 9:40 p.m. EST or later, one of which takes place at Oracle Park in California’s Bay Area. The San Francisco Giants (59-59) battle the San Diego Padres (66-52) in an NL West clash as the home team tries to gain a little ground in a difficult division.

Giants vs. Padres prediction, preview
The Giants started the 2025 campaign strong but have withered over the last month, particularly since the All-Star Game. They’re just 7-14 since that point and won just a pair of series in that span. Their arms are still solid with the MLB’s fifth-best ERA at 3.64, but the bats struggle to score with just 89 runs in 21 games, which ranks 23rd. The team’s .723 OPS stacks up just fine at 15th, but runners are often left stranded and they’re not hitting a ton of homers to clear the bases with 23, tied for 20th-most.
The Padres are having a much better time since the ASG with a 14-8 record, and they’ve won all but one series over that period. The pitching staff ranks third in ERA at 3.62, but the difference is that San Diego gets plenty of run support. They’ve scored 106 runs in 22 games, good for ninth in pro baseball, and the other stats look nice as well — the Padres’ .747 OPS ranks ninth thanks in no small part to a .345 OBP, they’re fifth in batting average at .274, and they’re top-six in both walks drawn and strikeouts.
In tonight’s battle on the bump, San Francisco ace Logan Webb (3.24 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 165 SO) gets the start against San Diego veteran Yu Darvish (6.51 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 23 SO). There’s a massive difference in starter quality, even given Darvish’s small sample size after returning from injury.
Giants vs. Padres pick, best bet
DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Giants as favorites in Monday’s game with -132 Moneyline odds. The Padres are listed at +109 on the Moneyline with the run total set at just seven, the lowest of tonight’s slate.
Despite Webb taking the mound this evening and providing some of the best pitching in the MLB, this still feels like a scenario where the over can hit. The Padres have put together some great efforts on offense over the last few weeks and seem to be finding their stride at the plate after struggling with inconsistencies throughout the first half of the campaign. They may still see some success against Webb, but it’s more likely they do so against the Giants’ bullpen in the later stages of this outing.
On the flip side, Darvish has been very hittable as he continues to work his way into form after a long injury absence. The San Francisco offense hasn’t been great this season, but they might actually be able to see some success tonight while the 38-year-old is on the mound. Since the total sits so low in this game, I feel pretty comfortable banking on at least eight runs for it to go over.
