Fortunately, the team has the right man toeing the rubber on Monday evening.

It’s impossible to start anywhere but with Nathan Eovaldi, who is having arguably the best campaign of any starter in the American League. Injuries have kept the veteran to just 111.0 innings, yet Eovaldi’s been basically unhittable when available, maintaining a stunning 1.38 ERA and 2.37 FIP — the former representing the lowest mark in MLB among all 95 pitchers who have tossed at least 100 frames in 2025. It’s honestly difficult to overstate just how effective the veteran RHP has been this season. Across his past 14 outings, Eovaldi’s allowed only eight earned runs over 80.1 innings. That works out to a 0.90 ERA. It’s also a span where Eovaldi hasn’t conceded an earned run in eight of those 14 appearances, including eight scoreless innings in his start last week versus the Yankees. In that one, Eovaldi struck out six and allowed a single baserunner.
At the very least, Arizona should offer Eovaldi a tougher test. Despite trading some notable names at the deadline in the form of Eugenio Suarez and Josh Naylor, the Diamondbacks have swung the bats well in August, compiling the league’s fourth-highest wRC+ in the month (129). While the club has benefitted from the somewhat surprising contributions of Blaze Alexander in this stretch, the overall success is mostly a testament to the continued domination of Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte, who will be the leading force of this Arizona offense for years to come.
Ryne Nelson also deserves a quick shoutout. The 27-year-old has bounced back and fourth from the rotation to the bullpen in 2025, but Nelson been steady throughout it all, mustering a 3.20 ERA and a 3.77 FIP across 101.1 innings of work. As with most pitchers, Nelson’s underlying data looks better as a reliever, yet that’s not to take anything away from his recent run of good results as a starter. Dating back to June 13, Nelson has pitched to a pristine 2.08 ERA with a 0.99 WHIP. It’s a 10-game stretch where Nelson’s held opponents to a dazzling .201/.261/.368 slash line. All this to say: Nathan Eovaldi’s not the only impressive man that will be starting tonight’s tilt in Texas.
