SP Brady Singer, Cincinnati Reds at PIT ($6,800)

Just six arms are eligible tonight, with two of them being Paul Skenes ($10,700)ย andย Logan Gilbert ($10,300). A nice low-cost alternative could be Reds starter Brady Singer. The right-hander has been decent, if a bit average, during his first season in Cincinnati. Through 115.2 innings of work, the 29-year-old has posted a 4.36 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 111 strikeouts. Last week against Atlanta, he tossed six scoreless innings while striking out ten batters.

Singer’s biggest issue is a propensity to give up contact; his 8.2 hits per nine innings ratio is uninspiring. Fortunately, he’ll get to take the mound tonight against a Pirates club that can’t do anything on offense. Pittsburgh is averaging 3.54 runs per game, the lowest mark in baseball. At this point, any pitcher with a pulse deserves fantasy consideration against the Buccos. He’s not the sexiest name, but Singer has the potential to deliver massive value.

OF Tommy Pham, Pittsburgh Pirates vs. CIN ($3,400)

Tommy Pham has been a stabilizing presence for an otherwise awful Pirates offense. This season, the 37-year-old has posted a .269 batting average with five homers and 32 RBIs. Thatโ€™s not much to write home about, but the veteran can clearly still swing the bat. A knack for generating walks (.339 on-base percentage) makes the 12th-year pro a pain for opposing pitchers.

Pham has been especially pesky as of late, emerging as one of Pittsburghโ€™s hottest hitters. Over his last ten games, the outfielder is slashing .351/.432/.541 in addition to a homer and five RBIs. During that stretch, heโ€™s reached double-digit fantasy points in half of those outings. Singer, as previously mentioned, isnโ€™t a bad starter, but he does give up baserunners. The hurler a hits per nine ratio of 8.2 this season. At $3,400, it wonโ€™t take much for Pham to return value on this modest investment.

OF Heriberto Hernandez, Miami Marlins at ATL ($2,800)

What’s behind the suddenly scorching-hot Marlins over the past few weeks? A number of factors, including some unexpected contributors at the plate. That includes Heriberto Hernandez, a part-time player that has been a pleasant surprise this season. Over 42 games played, the 25-year-old is slashing .308/.369/.513 with six home runs and 20 RBIs. At this point, an offensively-limited Miami squad might be forced to play the righty more going forward.

Hernandez has been on quite the tear as of late. During his last ten appearances, the rookie has hit .278 with three dingers, eight RBIs, and seven runs scored. It’s no coincidence that in half of those outings, he’s managed to record at least ten fantasy points. The Braves will send veteran Carlos Carrasco to the mound tonight. Through 38.0 innings of work, the former All-Star owns a 5.68 ERA and 1.53 WHIP. Against a struggling arm, Hernandez could be a steal at his current price.
