SP Nathan Eovaldi, Rangers vs. Yankees; $9,700
The Rangers have an underappreciated ace on their hands with Nathan Eovaldi, who’s numbers remain some of the most impressive across the entire MLB. With a 1.49 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. the right-hander would rank first and second in those rate stats among all pitchers if he pitched enough innings to qualify. While not a high-strikeout arm, he’s also punched out 105 batters across 103 innings of work.
All in all, Eovaldi averages 21.7 FPPG, the second-most of any pitcher on tonight’s slate. However, he slots in as the fourth-highest salaried hurler, likely due to a matchup some may perceive as a negative against the Yankees. New York bats just .229 since the All-Star Game though and ranks 14th in OPS over the same sample, so while they return Aaron Judge tonight, they’re not at the peak of their powers right now. Eovaldi should handle business this evening.
OF Jarren Duran, Red Sox vs. Royals; $4,400
This Red Sox standout feels way underpriced given his production lately. Outfielder Jarren Duran averages 8.9 FPPG this season but that mark ticks up to 14 FPPG over his last 10 games. Yet for some reason, his salary actually dropped off a bit over the last couple of outings.
With a .317 average and 1.134 OPS to match 12 RBI and three homers in his last 10 appearances, Duran is racking up fantasy points — that sample includes outings of 18, 32, 26, 12 and 27 on the scorecard. He faces Royals righty Ryan Bergert tonight, who’s kept his rate stats down over a limited sample this season. That’s not cause for concern though as Duran slashes .294/.370/.527 against right-handers this season. With his better split on the table and recent form on his side, the outfielder looks like a great way to add star-caliber production at a slightly cheaper price point than top lineup options.
1B Freddie Freeman, Dodgers vs. Cardinals; $4,700
Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman dealt with a bit of a slump around the All-Star period, but he turned things around shortly after and has fully rounded back into form as of late. The veteran averages 8.3 FPPG on the season but put up 11.1 FPPG over his last 10 appearances with a .390 average and 1.090 OPS over that span, bashing three homers with 10 RBI.
Freeman’s team has struggled some in recent weeks, so there’s a little less scoring opportunity than if the L.A. lineup were fully firing. Still, Freeman’s put up numbers that can help you win contests and the lefty bat faces his better split against right-hander Miles Mikolas and his 4.83 ERA. With the second-most hits of any Dodger this season and a .377 OBP overall, Freeman should still find his way into tonight’s lineups with a positive matchup.
