A 15-game MLB slate is on tap for Tuesday, with several matchups worth watching for baseball fans. That includes an NL Central meeting between the Reds and Cubs. Elsewhere, the Yankees take on the Rangers in a crucial American League showdown. As a nightcap, the Cardinals travel to Los Angeles to battle the Dodgers.

Chris Paddack more than 4.5 strikeouts thrown
It wasn’t the most exciting trade deadline for Tigers fans, who saw the club compliment its roster with low-profile veterans. That includes Chris Paddack, acquired from the Twins. So far, it’s been a solid start for the right-hander in Motown. During his first outing with Detroit on July 30th, Paddack tosses six innings while allowing just one run. However, the veteran’s season-long statistics aren’t the most impressive (4.77 ERA, 1.24 WHIP).
Tonight, Paddack will get a chance to best his former club, who kickstarted a rebuild last weekend. Minnesota traded several big names, and now looks like a shell of its old self. Even prior to their wheeling and dealing, this group loved to swing and miss. This season, the Twins have averaged 8.91 strikeouts per game on the road, the 11th-highest mark in baseball. A handful of strikeouts feels like a reasonable total for Detroit’s newest hurler.
Zebby Matthews more than 4.5 strikeouts thrown
Let’s stay at Comerica Park, where the Twins will attempt to earn an upset win. Toeing the slab for Minnesota tonight will be youngster Zebby Matthews. The 25-year-old has flashed major potential over the past two seasons, primarily due to his swing-and-miss stuff. Over 71.0 innings as a pro, the righty owns a stellar 10.8 K/9 rate. The only problem? He’s also recorded a 6.21 ERA and 1.54 WHIP during that time.
Banking on Matthews to deliver a mistake-free outing is a difficult proposition. However, the fireballer still manages to get punchouts, even when his command is lacking. The Tigers, who have struggled on offense recently, are ideal opponents. Detroit has struck out 8.79 times per game this season, sixth-most in baseball. Even if he struggles to get through five innings, Matthews can easily produce a handful of K’s.
Bryce Harper more than 1.5 total bases
For yet another season, the Phillies are one of the National League’s teams to beat. 2025 has been a bit different for Philadelphia; it’s lineup has been good, but not great. Bryce Harper, while still an All-Star bat, has seen his statistics dip ever so slightly. This season, the slugger is slashing .270/.376/.505 with 16 home runs and 47 RBIs. Good numbers, but not what that fans have grown accustomed to.
Fortunately for the Phils, their face of the franchise is beginning to mash. Over his last seven games, Harper his hitting .360 with two homers and five RBIs. That includes a solo shot last night against the Orioles. Baltimore’s starter on Tuesday, Dean Kremer, is far better at home (2.89) than on the road (5.37). Expect Philadelphia and their two-time MVP to do damage at Citizens Bank Park tonight.
Pete Alonso more than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
We’ll stick with the NL East, where the Mets hope to keep pace with their red-and-white rivals. Last night’s 7-6 loss to the Guardians was certainly a setback. New York’s defeat came in spite of a terrific performance from Pete Alonso. The Polar Bear tallied four hits, including a three-run sixth inning homer. Through 113 games, the first baseman is hitting .266 with a team-leading 25 dingers and 90 RBIs.
After a prolonged slump, Pete has begun to show signs of life. Including Monday’s masterpiece, he’s slashing .368/.409/.895 over New York’s last five contests. Cleveland’s starter tonight, Logan Allen, isn’t the most intimidating arm (4.45 ERA, 1.44 WHIP). Right-handed hitters are batting .263 against the 26-year-old pitcher. That could lead to a big day for Alonso and his teammates at Citi Field.
Jose Berrios less than 17.5 outs
It was a fun day for the Blue Jays on Monday, who clobbered the woeful Rockies 15-1. The high altitude of Coors Field likely boosted the offense, but the real headline was Toronto’s pitching. Starter Eric Lauer was unhittable, going six innings while allowing just one run. Jose Berrios will attempt to do the same on Tuesday, although it won’t be easy. When playing at home, Colorado is averaging the league’s 13th-most runs per game (4.52).
It’s been a solid season for Toronto’s veteran on the mound. Over 131.1 innings, he’s accounted for a 3.84 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 111 strikeouts. Still, that doesn’t mean he’s lined up for success tonight. In six appearances during the month of July, Berrios went six innings only twice. In addition, the Jays have a fully rested bullpen following their blowout win last night. Considering the AL East leaders have more important things to play for, this could be an opportunity to give one of their best pitchers some rest. A quick leash for Berrios, even if he’s doing well, makes plenty of sense.
Bryan Woo more than 1.5 earned runs allowed
It’s been a breakout year for Bryan Woo, arguably Seattle’s most consistent hurler. Through 21 starts, the All-Star has notched a 3.11 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 127 strikeouts. As good as those statistics are, the 26-year-old has gone through a bit of a rough patch recently. During his last four outings, Woo has allowed 13 earned runs (4.56 ER). That’s not necessarily something to be overly concerned about, but the right-hander clearly looks a bit off.
A date with the White Sox should lead to a bounce back for Seattle’s budding star on Tuesday. However, these aren’t the same South Siders from earlier this season. Over the past three weeks, Chicago has scored the fourth-most runs in all of baseball (96). Even if Woo has a stellar showing tonight, it’ll only take two runs to hit the over. That’s a risk fantasy managers should consider taking.
