Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Mets prediction, pick for Monday 8/4/25

Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday night baseball game between the Guardians and the Mets.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Guardians vs. Mets prediction, preview

The Mets (63-49) return home looking to shake off a rough weekend, having dropped two of three to San Francisco, including a 12-4 defeat on Sunday. The Guardians (56-55) also fell on Sunday (5-4 to Minnesota), but they had won two straight before that. New York will start left-hander Sean Manaea (1-1, 2.08 ERA), who has been excellent since joining the rotation. In 17.1 innings with the Mets he’s allowed only four earned runs on 11 hits while striking out 22. Cleveland answers with rookie righty Slade Cecconi (5-4, 3.77 ERA), who has held his own and actually posted a 2.57 ERA across 35 road innings this season.

Strong pitching and middling offenses make the under appealing here. Manaea owns a 3-1 career record with a 2.94 ERA against Cleveland, and he should be motivated after the Mets’ bullpen was taxed in that blowout loss. The Guardians lineup is one of the weaker units in the league (.229 team batting average) and could struggle to score at Citi Field. Cleveland’s pitching (3.87 team ERA) can keep them competitive, but their offense often falters in interleague play.

Mets vs. Guardians pick, best bet

The Guardians have lost seven of eight games versus NL teams following a loss, largely due to lack of run support. Meanwhile, the Mets have covered the run line in five of their last six games against AL opponents, showing they can control such matchups. Recent meetings between these clubs tend to be tight. The home team has won 10 of the last 11, often in close, low-scoring contests. With Manaea dealing and Cecconi proving solid of late, runs should be at a premium.
