Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday night baseball game between the Cubs and the Reds.

Cubs vs. Reds prediction, preview
Nick Lodolo has been sharp—there’s no doubt about that. But he’s also allowed 15 homers to righties this year, and now he faces a Cubs lineup that skews right-handed with Seiya Suzuki, Christopher Morel, and Nico Hoerner all swinging well. Lodolo’s 3.09 ERA is impressive, but his FIP sits closer to 3.80, and the Cubs have been quietly dangerous at home. They’ve gone Over in three of their last five, and they’re slugging .438 at Wrigley since the break.
On the other side, Soroka’s underlying issues haven’t gone away. Left-handed hitters have tagged him for eight homers in 172 ABs and a .244 average. Cincinnati counters with Elly De La Cruz and Will Benson—both capable of putting one in the seats if the wind carries. And with warm weather and a breeze blowing out to left-center, expect a ball or two to get up and out.
Reds vs. Cubs pick, best bet
Factor in the recent bullpen usage—Cincinnati leaned on its relievers for seven innings just two days ago—and both managers may be slower to the hook. That only adds fuel to the total. Lodolo may give the Reds six decent innings, but Soroka’s volatility plus a stretched relief corps for both sides open the door late.
We’re getting this total at 7.5, with light juice to the Over. That’s a green light. Two capable but imperfect arms, homer-friendly weather, and multiple lineup threats suggest there’s enough firepower on both sides. I’ve got this finishing in the 5–4 or 6–3 range.
Cubs offense has been lifeless recently. Bounce back tonight against Lodolo.
