Seattle Mariners vs. Texas Rangers prediction, pick for Sunday 8/3/25

The Phillies and the Tigers take the main stage tonight, but this Mariners/Rangers matchup at T-Mobile Park might be the sneaky-best game of the day. DeGrom vs. a scrappy Evans. The Seattle super-lineup vs. the Rangers’ underperforming one. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Sunday afternoon baseball game between the Mariners and the Rangers.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Mariners vs. Rangers prediction, preview

Jacob deGrom arrives in Seattle boasting a 2.55 ERA and 0.92 WHIP, yet he’s bled five earned runs in 5.1 innings his last time out. Logan Evans, a 24-year-old rookie, counters with a 4.92 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP, but his 15.2% swinging-strike rate over his past three starts ranks in baseball’s 75th percentile. T-Mobile Park’s A+ pitcher park rating suppresses batted-ball exit velocities by 8.0%, and tonight’s closed roof neutralizes wind variables. In a setting that stifles power, deGrom’s 89 mph slider—and Evans’s 94 mph fastball—become chess pieces rather than raw heat.

Texas’s lineup jams together a .258 OBP and a 92 wRC+ over its last 14 days, landing it in the bottom five of AL run creation. Corey Seager sits on a .295 xBA but a meager .229 batting average this month, and Marcus Semien carries just a .324 SLG in high-leverage spots. These veteran bats are missing barrels at a 9.0% rate, below their career 12%. In contrast, Seattle’s offense thrives on situational excellence: the M’s rank fifth in MLB with a .338 wOBA with runners in scoring position. Julio Rodríguez has posted a .422 wOBA and 29% walk rate in high-leverage PA since the All-Star break.

The underdog Mariners own an 11-6 mark in their last 17 home games as dogs, reflecting their flair for pressure-packed thrills. Seattle’s bullpen—a 3.40 collective ERA at home—arms up behind Evans with Andrés Muñoz’s 32% strikeout rate and Matt Brash’s 2.01 FIP ready to lock down late innings. DeGrom has already served up 15 stolen bases this year, exposing a vulnerability to aggressive baserunners. Seattle’s swiped 26 bags this month, forcing fast-twitch reactions on the mound that magnify any control lapses. Working deep counts against deGrom has pushed his pitch count past 100 in two of his past three starts; the M’s will exploit that.

Rangers vs. Mariners pick, best bet

Texas has faltered in road-favorite roles, going 3-7 in its last 10 games as a road chalk. A razor-thin total at 7.5 hints at the low-scoring duel we expect, yet oddsmakers still offer +120 on the Mariners’ moneyline. I’m leaning into that value. Seattle’s balanced lineup, elite situational hitting, and a home bullpen built for endings present a formula to neutralize deGrom’s aura.

Evans doesn’t need perfection—just five quality innings to activate a shutdown bullpen. In a game where every extra-base knock feels seismic, I trust this hungry M’s squad to grind out a one- or two-run victory. The energy in T-Mobile Park will surge, and Seattle will remind the league they’re not just contenders. They’re a force now.

Best bet: Mariners (+120) vs. Rangers
