The entire MLB is in action on Saturday as players around the league continue to settle in following Thursday’s Trade Deadline. In the afternoon window, the Miami Marlins (53-55) take on the New York Yankees (60-50) again after a shocking upset finish in last night’s contest.

Marlins vs. Yankees prediction, preview
Yesterday’s series opener saw a stunning collapse by the Yankees in the ninth inning. Despite leading 12-10 heading into the bottom half of the final frame, New York collapsed down the stretch and allowed three runs thanks to sloppy fielding from multiple culprits that allowed the Marlins to rally and win at home. Xavier Edwards and Agustin Ramirez knocked in the three runs to secure the walk-off victory over the visitors’ revamped bullpen. Incredibly, it was the Yankees’ first road loss when scoring 12 or more runs since 1940.
New York certainly hopes for a different outcome this evening, especially since they’ve continued to drop lower in the AL East standings with just half a game over the third-place Boston Red Sox. The Yankees rank just 22nd in batting average since the All-Star break, but they’re 10th in OPS over the same span as they weather the injury to Aaron Judge. As for the Marlins, they’ve very quietly performed as one of the pro baseball’s best teams since June and they’ve nearly climbed to the .500 mark on the full season. Miami ranks 12th in OPS since the All-Star Game, though they’ve scored just 58 runs to the Yankees’ 75 in that span.
The Marlins trot out ace righty Eury Perez (3.07 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 46 SO) for his 10th start of the year. He faces Yankees rookie righty Cam Schlittler (4.91 ERA, 1.84 WHIP, 15 SO) who makes his fourth appearance with just 14.2 innings pitched so far after making his MLB debut back on July 9.
Marlins vs. Yankees pick, best bet
The Marlins enter as -115 favorites on the Moneyline on Saturday via DraftKings Sportsbook’s odds. Conversely, the Yankees are -106 underdogs on the Moneyline with the run total set at eight.
Miami’s 9-4 record since the All-Star Game places them among the MLB’s top teams since the season resumed as they ride a three-game winning streak into Saturday. They have momentum on their side after snapping New York’s streak last night, plus the Yankees are fighting tooth and nail at 7-7 since the break. The Marlins do have the benefit of a much better and more experienced starter on the mound, so I expect them to get the better of their opponents’ lineup for as long as Perez remains in the game.
However, the Yankees did bolster their bullpen at the Trade Deadline with David Bednar and Camilo Doval, so banking on the Marlins to stay in the lead in the late innings may be tough. With that said, I’m targeting the Marlins to lead through the first five innings at -135 odds rather than taking a traditional game line.
