It was a confusing week for the Angels. Despite sitting below .500, the front office decided to add rather than trade away expiring contracts. That led to LA picking up relievers Andrew Chafin and Luis Garcia from Washington, bolstering their bullpen. While that probably won’t impact the American League pennant race, it does make Los Angeles a stronger club.
It’s worth noting that the Halos have put together a respectable offense. Los Angeles is averaging the 15th-most runs per game in baseball (4.35). In addition, the Angels have clubbed the league’s fourth-most home runs this season (156). That’ll be the challenge facing White Sox starter Aaron Civale. Acquired in June, the seventh-year pro has a 4.10 ERA since joining Chicago. However, he also owns a lackluster 1.4 HR/9 ratio.
The White Sox enter Saturday on a hot streak, having won nine of their last 15 games. Angels hurler Kyle Hendricks will attempt to slow down the South Siders tonight. It’s been a subpar campaign for the veteran (4.73 ERA, 1.25 WHIP). However, he’s a much better pitcher at home (4.07 ERA) compared to on the road (5.44 ERA). In addition, Chicago has hit the sixth-fewest home runs in baseball (103). That certainly helps Hendricks, a flyball specialist.

Although the White Sox are a last place club, they’ve been playing inspired baseball recently. Unfortunately for Chicago, tonight’s pitching matchup is not in its favor. The Angels live and die by the long ball, and Civale is prone to coughing up dingers. As long as Hendricks doesn’t implode, Los Angeles is poised for a comfortable win.
