UPDATE: Play has been suspended for the day at the Wyndham Championship and Round 2 will resume Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. ET.
The Wyndham Championship this week is the last chance for PGA TOUR players to qualify for the FedExCup playoffs, which start next week. They’ll have to sweat out the cut a little longer, though, after Round 2 of the Wyndham Championship was suspended with the afternoon wave still on the course on Friday afternoon. With rain and dangerous weather on the way, officials blew the horn at 4:32.
At the time of the delay, Cameron Young had taken the lead at -14 for the tournament and -7 for the day. He finished Round 1 with five straight birdies on Thursday and started round 2 with three birdies in his first four holes. He added four more birdies before the horn and has three holes remaining in his round.
Just behind him at -13 for the tournament is defending champion Aaron Rai, who is -6 through his first 13 holes of the day. The clubhouse lead is shared by Sungjae Im and Mac Meissner at -12 with Mark Hubbard also done for the day at -11.
Right now the cut still sits at -3, but according to DataGolf, there is an 78.9% chance that it will move to -4 by the end of the round. There are 17 golfers tied for 65th at -3 right now and they all could be in or out depending on how things unfold when the weather clears.
One player who is done for the week is Erik van Rooyen, who withdrew due to a back injury. He started the week at No. 64 in the FedExCup standings and is now projected to drop to No. 68. The top 70 make next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, which is the first tournament of the playoffs, so he’ll be one of several players on the bubble to watch through the weekend.
