UPDATE: Pena exited due to a hamstring cramp.

Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena exited Friday night’s game against the Boston Red Sox during the 10th inning.

The reason for his exit hasn’t yet been announced.

Friday night marked Pena’s first appearance since late June after he spent time on IL with a fractured rib. A moment where he may have reinjured it didn’t seem clear, so it’s possible he was pulled for precautionary measures to avoid overworking him in his first game back from injury.

Newly-acquired infielder Carlos Correa slid to shortstop in Pena’s stead while fellow Trade Deadline acquisition Ramon Urias replaced Correa at third.

Pena was 3-for-5 on the night at the time he exited the game. If it is indeed an injury and he misses more time, the loss of the All-Star will certainly hurt the Astros in their fight to stay atop the AL West.

This article will be updated as information becomes available.
