The Houston Astros were dealt an unfortunate hand when third baseman Isaac Paredes went down with a hamstring injury on July 19. Now, the team gets some clarity on exactly how long their All-Star will spend on the IL.
Paredes will miss at least two months due to his hamstring injury and is searching for a second opinion to avoid surgery, per Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 in Houston.
The timeline deals a devastating blow to the 26-year-old’s excellent season, as well as the Astros’ postseason hopes.
Paredes, in his first season with Houston after being dealt to the club in the Kyle Tucker trade, slashes .259/.359/.470 on the campaign. His 19 home runs and 49 drawn walks lead the lineup, and the third baseman also ranks top-four on the team in hits, runs, RBI and OPS.
Since the third baseman suffered the injury, the Astros are 6-5 as they struggle to string together multiple wins. The team still remains atop the AL West at 62-47 with a 4.5-game lead, but the Mariners and Rangers could easily gain ground as Houston deals with a long list of injuries.
With less than 24 hours remaining until the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline, the Astros likely become a team to keep an eye on as they look to replace Paredes’ production.
