For the last event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs, we travel to Sedgefield Country Club (par 70, 7,131 yards, Bermuda greens) in Greensboro, North Carolina for the Wyndham Championship. Following this event, the top-70 players in the FedEx Cup standings will advance to next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship. There are 156 golfers competing at the Wyndham Championship, and a standard top-65 and ties cut after the first two rounds.
Below, I have featured some head-to-head tournament matchup bets to consider for the Wyndham Championship on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Top Wyndham Championship Matchup Picks
Matt Fitzpatrick over Keegan Bradley (-120)
Between these two players, Bradley has the edge in course history at Sedgefield CC. Bradley has never missed a cut in three starts at this track, most notably with a T22 last season, while Fitzpatrick has only competed Sedgefield CC once with a T36 finish in 2018.
That being said, Fitzpatrick’s form is the best in the field, making him the right choice for this matchup vs. Bradley. The former won the Travelers Championship last month, but in Bradley’s next two starts, he finished just T41st and T30th, whereas Fitzpatrick has consistently been in the hunt for a win, finishing T8th, T4th and T4th in his last three starts. When we analyze this field’s past 12 rounds, Fitzpatrick ranks first in total strokes gained by a comfortable margin, while Bradley ranks 13th.
There is also the motivation factor with the FedEx Cup Playoffs beginning next week. With a win on his resume this season, Bradley ranks 10th in the FedEx Cup standings, while Fitzpatrick ranks 43rd after an up-and-down start to his season. Earning a large amount of FedEx Cup points is essential for Fitzpatrick this week if he wants to qualify for the TOUR Championship at the end of the month – only the top-30 players in the FedEx Cup standings will compete at this playoff finale – while Bradley can afford to have a poor showing at Sedgefield CC.
The highly motivated Fitzpatrick should contend this week and finish higher than Bradley, possibly with ease.
Adam Scott over Ryan Gerard (-105)
Scott should outperform Gerard this week, and the former should have been the favorite for this matchup. Yes, Gerard just picked up his first PGA TOUR win in his last start, but this victory came at the Barracuda Championship. This event was played the same week as the Open Championship and as a result, the Barracuda featured an extremely weak field, as all the best players in the world were competing at Royal Portrush.
Outside this win, Gerard hasn’t finished higher than T41st in his last six starts. Meanwhile, Scott has finished T31st or better four times in his last six starts. When we compare this field’s last 24 rounds, Scott ranks 39th in total strokes gained, whereas Gerard ranks 43rd, which is very concerning for the latter, considering Gerard won an event during this time.
Now, these two players head to Sedefield CC and Scott has a huge advantage over Gerard in course history at this Donald Ross design. Gerard missed the cut in his lone start at Sedgefield CC in 2023, while Scott has made 4-of-5 cuts at this venue, including a runner-up in 2021 and a T7 in 2023.
