What happened to Jacob Wilson? Injury update for Athletics’ shortstop

Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson was in the midst of a fantastic rookie season, but that campaign now goes on pause as he lands on the injured list.

On Tuesday, Wilson was placed on the 10-day IL with a fractured right forearm. The move is retroactive to July 26.

It’s unclear when exactly the young shortstop suffered the injury. He last played on July 25 and missed the last three games while nursing a hand contusion originally suffered back on July 8.

Wilson was a contender to win AL Rookie of the Year prior to this absence. With a .312/.354/.439 slash line, the 23-year-old remains tied for 10th in hits among all MLB batters with the fourth-best batting average in all of baseball. The standout earned his first All-Star appearance and even started for the American League in that game, so he’ll be sorely missed in the Athletics’ lineup.

In Wilson’s absence, Max Schuemann likely slots in as the A’s starting shortstop.

This article will be updated when more details are made available.
