Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa exited Tuesday night’s game against the Boston Red Sox early during the third inning.

Correa’s exit was due to illness, per the Twins.

The shortstop appeared shaken up at first base following a single in the first inning and was checked out by a trainer at the time. He remained in the game through the top of the second but had another conversation with the trainer while coming off the field, then departed for the clubhouse.

Brooks Lee entered the game at shortstop in Correa’s place. Otherwise, no further updates have been provided at this time.

Correa slashes .267/.319/.386 on the season with 90 hits, 40 runs and 31 RBI in 93 games. The 30-year-old has always been known for his Gold Glove-caliber defense at shortstop, but it’s worth noting that he’s regressed significantly on offense in comparison to last year’s injury-shortened campaign. His .319 OBP and .386 SLG marks are both the second-lowest of his career.

The Twins sit 51-55 on the year with just a couple of days to go until the MLB Trade Deadline. At the time Correa exited Tuesday’s game, they trailed the Red Sox 5-2.
