What happened to Byron Buxton? Latest injury updates for Twins star

It’s going to be a strange few days for the Minnesota Twins as the trade deadline approaches. Byron Buxton wasn’t going anywhere to begin with, but now the news hits that he’ll be sidelined on the 10-day injured list with left ribcage inflammation. Buxton’s injury adds to a laundry list of problems for Minnesota.

At 51-55, the Twins are fading fast from hopes of a Wild Card berth. Trade rumors surrounding key pieces in Minnesota have been heating up with the expectation that they’ll sell for the right price. It’s also an interesting time in the Twin Cities to begin with as the team is being sold after this year.

Buxton has been his healthiest and best self, but it hasn’t led to much success for the team. Now he’ll be sidelined for at least another week with his rib problem.

Buxton, 31, made his second All-Star appearance this season. He’s slashing .282/.343/.561 with 23 home runs and 17 stolen bases. Those are the second-highest HR and SB totals of his career. Most importantly, he’s on pace to play over 100 games for just the third time in his 11-year career. This is a tough blow for Minnesota’s superstar center fielder.
