Somehow, despite several underperforming stars and untimely injuries, the Rangers are firmly in playoff contention at 56-51. The same can’t be said for the Angels (52-55), but this group still has a chance in the wide-open American League. Ahead of tonight’s pivotal AL West showdown, which of these rivals will earn a much-needed victory? Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Tuesday’s matchup between the Rangers and Angels.
The Angels are favorites (-132) over the Rangers, with the over/under set at nine runs. Let’s break down which side has the edge on DraftKings Sportsbook entering tonight’s contest.
Rangers vs. Angels prediction, preview
For most of 2025, Texas has gotten minimal production out of its star-studded lineup. The team only ranks 23rd in runs per game this season (4.12). However, since June 1st the Rangers have scored the league’s second-most runs (245). Unsurprisingly, that’s been the catalyst towards their 28-20 record over the past two months. Several hitters have impressed during that time, including Corey Seager (.893 OPS), Josh Smith (.836) and Marcus Semien (.803).
Assuming the Rangers continue their recent success at the plate, that eases the burden on Patrick Corbin. Tonight’s pitcher has been a revelation during his first season in the Lone Star State. Through 104.2 innings of work, the former All-Star has accounted for a 3.78 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 7.5 K/9. The 35-year-old has been on fire recently, allowing eight total runs over his previous five outings (2.54 ERA). That includes a five-inning, two-run performance at Angel Stadium on July 10th.
To counter Corbin, Los Angeles will send Yusei Kikuchi to the mound. The two-time All-Star has tossed 122.2 innings this season, delivering a 3.23 ERA and 127 strikeouts. Granted, a sky-high 1.40 WHIP isn’t the greatest mark, but the Japanese hurler has still been effective. Despite their recent improvements at the plate, this isn’t an ideal matchup for the Rangers. The team has a .202 batting average against left-handers this season, fourth-lowest in baseball. In two meetings this season with Texas, Kikuchi owns a decent, not great, 4.09 ERA.
Angels vs. Rangers pick, best bet
Best Bet: Rangers vs. Angels under nine total runs (-115)
Neither of these lineups are lacking in quality hitters. Still, this is more about having confidence in tonight’s starters. Corbin is becoming one of the AL’s more underrated arms, while Kikuchi is a deserving All-Star. Both offenses also rank inside the bottom ten in batting average vs. left-handed pitching. Expect a stellar showing from these southpaws on Tuesday.
