Two games of WNBA action are set to take place across today’s Monday, July 28th slate.
The action will open up at 7:00 p.m. ET between the Connecticut Sun and Seattle Storm. The Storm enter as 11.5-point favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook while the Sun hold +455 odds of getting the outright victory. Then, at 8:00 p.m. ET, the Dallas Wings host the New York Liberty. New York is favored by eight points while Dallas holds +285 odds of getting the outright win.
With just two matchups on the table, here are my favorite WNBA prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Monday’s games.
Skylar Diggins Over 5.5 Assists (-110)
The Seattle Storm are coming off a 69-58 loss at the hands of the Washington Mystics last night. This was one of their more frustrating games of the campaign, especially with several of the starters being benched in the second half of the loss. Skylar Diggins was one of them, finishing with just five points and four assists in 24 minutes of action. Diggins shot just 2-for-10 from the field, which tied her worst output of the season.
It should be a different story tonight as the Storm prepare to take on the Sun. Connecticut sits dead-last in the WNBA standings with a 4-20 record. They allow the most points per game to opponents, the worst opponent field goal percentage and they give up the most rebounds to opponents. This will be the fourth meeting between these two teams so far this year. Two of the matchups have resulted in 14+ point victories by the Storm, although the Sun picked up a surprising victory in the other game.
Diggins averages 17.2 points, 5.6 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game this season while shooting 39.6% from beyond the three-point arc. The seven-time All-Star has tallied over 5.5 assists in 13 of the 25 games, including as many as 14 in a game. Diggins also fell just short in several other games, recording five assists in four matchups. She is averaging 5.6 assists against the Sun this year with five assists in two matchups and seven in the other.
Expect yesterday’s performance to serve as a wake-up call for Diggins and the rest of this Storm team. This is as ideal a matchup as Seattle could ask for, so count on Diggins continuing to lead the charge. Last night’s loss was uncharacteristic across the board. Expect Diggins to set the table for the whole offense from the start tonight.
Arike Ogunbowale Over 15.5 Points (-110)
There have been some frustrating growing pains on the court for the Dallas Wings this season. Arike Ogunbowale has been at the top of the list of players needing to adjust to the addition of first-overall pick Paige Bueckers, especially with her role changing in a major way. Ogunbowale, a four-time All-Star, averages a career-low 16.0 points along with 3.9 assists and 2.5 rebounds. She is also shooting a career-worst 36.4% from the field and 32.6% from beyond the three-point arc.
It took some time, but there have been some positive strides by Ogunbowale of late. She enters this game having tallied over 15.5 points in three consecutive games and has eclipsed this total in 12 of 23 games overall this season. The prop lines for Ogunbowale have continued to decrease to the point where this is a value, so this is a spot where it is worth capitalizing on.
The New York Liberty are a tough opponent and remain the WNBA title favorites at +165 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. But they rank sixth in opponent points allowed and give up the second-most three-point attempts in the WNBA. This will be the first matchup between these two sides this season, but Ogunbowale averaged 17.5 points in four matchups with New York last year. The former scoring champion has taken some positive strides in learning to play off Bueckers and has looked much more like herself of late. Look for this momentum to carry into tonight’s game and for the Wings star to record over 15.5 points tonight.
Sabrina Ionescu Over 21.5 Points (-115)
On the other side of the matchup, Sabrina Ionescu looks primed for another strong scoring output. The four-time All-Star is averaging a career-high 19.3 points per game along with 5.8 assists and 4.6 rebounds. Ionescu has seen her role grow in recent games with Breanna Stewart suffering a leg injury. Stewart looks to have avoided the worst-case scenario but is expected to miss tonight’s game after leaving the loss to the Sparks early in her previous outing.
Ionescu has dropped 29 and 30 points in her previous two games and has tallied over 21.5 points in 10 of 23 games this season. She has also attempted 21+ shot attempts in back-to-back games and should see as much volume as she desires without Stewart on the floor. Ionescu’s 16.0 field goal attempts per game this season are a career-high, even with this coming while sharing the floor with Stewart.
Looking at the matchup, the Wings rank 10th in the league in opponent points per game, allowing 86.6 per contest. They are also 10th in defensive rating, 10th in opponent field goal percentage, and 12th in opponent three-point percentage. Ionescu is playing with extreme confidence of late and Dallas is not the caliber of defense that causes concern. Expect her to see plenty of shot volume and tally over 21.5 points for the third straight game. For the sake of the article, we will keep it to this number, but I will also be backing Ionescu to score 25+ points at +140 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook.
