UPDATE: Suárez received X-Rays after being removed from the game, and they came back negative.

Rough news for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. Slugging third baseman Eugenio Suárez was forced to leave Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers after being hit on the hand with a pitch.

He sure looks to be in a lot of pain after that one. The radar gun had that as a 96 miles per hour fastball right to the hand. It’s a tough break for Suárez and the Diamondbacks, for several reasons.

Suárez, 34, is expected to be the top rental player at the MLB trade deadline. In fact, it’s being reported that the Detroit Tigers themselves were interested in acquiring him. Now the Diamondbacks, Suárez, and any potential suitors will hold their breath waiting for an update. Losing him only days before the deadline would put a serious dent in their plans for this season.
