After eight seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, WR Cooper Kupp was released by the team on March 12th. Kupp didn’t last long on the open market, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on March 14th that Kupp had reached an agreement with the Seahawks on a three-year, $45 million deal.
It has been an interesting offseason for Seattle. They traded away Geno Smith and D.K. Metcalf while signing Sam Darnold and Cooper Kupp as replacements in free agency. They did recoup some extra draft capital, and went on to select four players in the first three rounds of the 2025 NFL draft. The biggest question surrounding Seattle this year will be Sam Darnold. Can he maintain the standards he set for himself last season, or will he take a step backward without Kevin O’Connell and the Vikings offense?
Kupp having a good season in 2025 not only depends on the performance of Darnold, but also his health. He has played in only 33 games over the last three seasons. The former Ram is now 32 years old, so father time seems to have caught up to him since his breakout year in 2021 with over 1900 yards and 16 touchdowns. I’m not sure if we’ll ever see that version of Kupp again, but if he can stay healthy, I still think he can be one of the best WR2s in the league.
Despite only playing in 12 games last season, Kupp recorded 710 yards and six touchdowns. His 184 FPTS a season ago was 37th most among receivers, but his 15.3 FPTS per game was 21st among wideouts. This is yet another example of how Kupp’s health has deteriorated his fantasy value. If he could just stay healthy, he’d be up there with some of the best in the game.
There are too many questions surrounding this offense, QB play and health for me to think Kupp’s potential has improved with this move. The Rams decided to move on, and that’s fine, but I think Kupp would have been better off in L.A. from a fantasy perspective, working in an offense and with a quarterback that he is more familiar with.
