It all comes down to this for European football supremacy: a rematch of the 2023 Women’s World Cup final. England won the 2022 Euros, edging out Germany in extra time between a Chloe Kelly 110th minute winner. Then, Spain edged the Lionesses out in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, 1-0, as Olga Carmona’s 29th-minute goal was enough. La Roja finished fourth in the 2024 Olympics, while England didn’t qualify.
With a win, Spain would add its first-ever European title to its World Cup triumph, while the Lionesses would claim their second Euros title. Neither nation has an Olympic medal in its history.
La Roja are -130 favorites to win the match in regular time at DraftKings Sportsbook and -320 to lift the cup, with England at +340 and +230 to claim the trophy. There are +255 odds that the match will require an extra period to decide.
Spain vs. England prediction, pick
Despite requiring extra time to advance past Germany in the semifinals, Spain has clearly been the best team in the competition. Entering the semifinals, it had won each of its four matches by two or more goals, and if not for a truly heroic performance by German goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger, it could have in that match, too, given that it generated 2.2 expected goals’ worth of chances to Die Nationalelf’s 0.9. Atiana Bonmatí’s 113th-minute winner seemed inevitable, even though it came as a result of Berger conceding too much space at the near post. But the Lionesses deserve their place in this final too: they ousted Sweden on penalties in the quarterfinals before outplaying Italy in a thrilling comeback featuring a 96th-minute equalizer and a 119th-minute winner.
La Roja’s talent is evident by looking at the tops of the competition leaderboards — or the top of last season’s Ballon d’Or Féminin voting. Not only has Spain scored the most goals and conceded the fewest, Esther González is the competition’s leading scorer and Alexia Putellas has been the top assister. Spanish players accounted for five of the top 11 players in the 2024 Ballon d’Or voting, including the winner Bonmatí and the third-place finisher Salma Paralluelo, who’s played only 177 total minutes this tournament on a stacked roster. Spain is so loaded, in fact, that Bonmatí’s winner made her the 10th La Roja player to find the back of the net, and Athenea del Castillo became the ninth player to register an assist.
However, England has proven time and time again that it has the clutch gene. The Lionesses’ win over Sweden looked in doubt the whole time, requiring Lucy Bronze and Agyemang goals within three minutes of each other just to push the game to extra time. It’ll be a close match — both of the Lionesses’ defeats in 2025 have come by a 2-1 scoreline to France — but ultimately, Spain has a better top-to-bottom roster and will welcome defender Laia Aleixandri back after she was suspended for the semifinal due to yellow card accumulation. Aleixandri ranks in the top quartile among center backs in tackles and interceptions while also excelling in the attack, so her nifty passing and dribbling should give La Roja a boost that it didn’t have against Germany. It’ll be Spain that has just a little bit more in crunch time.
