MLB Picks Today: Player Props and Team Props for Thursday, July 24, 2025
Nolan Schanuel 2+ total bases +130 vs. Seattle Mariners
Logan Evans will be taking the hill for the Mariners tonight, which has me backing Schanuel to record at least two total bases. Evans has struggled significantly against left-handed hitters, allowing a .371 wOBA, a 4.96 FIP, and all five of his home runs to lefties. It gets even worse on the road, where he’s posted a .531 wOBA and a 6.48 FIP against them.
Evans relies primarily on two pitches—a cutter and a sweeper—both of which Schanuel has handled well against right-handed pitching. Schanuel owns a .370 wOBA against cutters and a .418 wOBA against sweepers. With the Angels expected to hit Evans hard tonight, Schanuel should be a key part of that offensive production.
Jason Alexander 3+ earned runs allowed +100 vs. Athletics
Alexander is being recalled from Triple-A to make this start for the Astros. Although he’s been pitching in the minors since 2017, he’s made just 24 major league appearances—12 of them as a starter. This season, he’s appeared in six games and has struggled, posting an inflated 8.40 ERA and a 6.43 FIP. Even his 5.27 xERA suggests things haven’t gone much better beneath the surface.
Alexander primarily relies on two pitches: a sinker and a changeup. While the Athletics are serviceable against the sinker, they’ve excelled against the changeup. Tonight’s projected lineup owns a combined .335 wOBA and a .207 ISO against that pitch.
Yusei Kikuchi 7+ total strikeouts +105 vs. Seattle Mariners
The Mariners’ lineup strikes out at a high rate. Tonight’s projected lineup against left-handed pitching carries a combined 24.5% strikeout rate, with four hitters striking out at 25% or higher. Yusei Kikuchi, who’s averaging 9.3 K/9 this season, is well-positioned to take advantage. His strikeout numbers have trended upward in recent months—he’s recorded at least seven strikeouts in five of his last seven starts.
Kikuchi leans heavily on his slider, throwing it 37% of the time. It’s a pitch the Mariners have struggled with. Dating back to last season, the expected lineup’s strikeout rate climbs to 31% when facing sliders from lefties.
