Tampa Bay Rays vs. Chicago White Sox prediction, pick for Wednesday 7/23/25

The White Sox have a little something going, and Tampa hasn’t exactly found any sustainable momentum in July. Jonathan Cannon and Taj Bradley toe the mound tonight, both looking to suppress any surge the opposition finds. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Wednesday night baseball game between the Rays and the White Sox.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Rays vs. White Sox prediction, preview

Jonathan Cannon’s .138 batting average allowed with runners in scoring position smashes league norms. His 0.425 RISP OPS ranks first percentile among starters with 40+ innings. Those numbers signal elite control under fire. Opponents swing at 14% line drives against him, lowest in qualified MLB. He’s locked in. Taj Bradley counters with equal ferocity. His .122 opponent average over 14 days leads AL starters. Bradley’s 15% LD rate vs. lefties ranks in the 99th percentile. His 0.171 slugging allowed over his last five starts sits in the 98th percentile. That arsenal wrecks contact.

Yandy Díaz hauls a 129 wRC+ into this contest. His .349 on‑base percentage ranks 47th league‑wide. Díaz accelerates Tampa’s offense. Junior Caminero’s 152 wRC+ and .512 slugging percentage anchor middle order power. He’s driven 25 home runs, pacing elite sluggers. Value surges when those bats face Cannon.

Chicago’s offense lags—breaking news. Team wRC+ sits 28th at 83. Their .223 average sits in baseball’s bottom quartile. Miguel Vargas posts a 92 wRC+ despite 12 homers. He needs loft against Bradley’s elite soft‑contact profile. Chase Meidroth’s .332 OBP offers spark, but depth evaporates after him.

Both bullpens boast sub‑3.00 ERAs over their last 17 innings. Relief arms will suffocate run production.

White Sox vs. Rays pick, best bet

Weather holds at 82 degrees, negligible wind. Steinbrenner’s evening sea breeze favors breaking stuff. Pitchers gain bite on sweeps and curves. No batter‑friendly gusts threaten dingers. Conditions nudge toward the under.

Some will tout Chicago’s six straight underdog wins. They’ll ignore that those victories averaged 3.2 combined runs. Others will chide me for picking Under, citing Rays’ average 4.7 runs per game. They overlook Tampa’s .182 batting average over their last four outings. Cold bats kill the over value.

Rays sit 3–7 ATS over ten games. White Sox stand 8–2 ATS in their last ten. Those ATS surges reflect volatility, not offensive prowess. Neither unit sustains high run outputs in this duel. Pace tilts to low‑scoring.

Cannon boasts a 3.1 K/BB ratio, tied for best among starters with 100+ innings. Bradley sits at 2.3 K/BB, solidified by pinpoint fastball. Both masters throttle free passes. Fewer walks equal fewer scoring chances. That spells Under.

Game scripts favor pitchers. Both teams combine for just three total runs over their last two meetings. Head‑to‑head unders playout in eight of ten opportunities. Statistical momentum demands we ride under. And so we shall.

Best bet: Rays vs. White Sox u9.0 runs (-120)
