The PGA TOUR heads back stateside this week to Minnesota for the 3M Open. TPC Twin Cities will be the host course, and measures as a 7,431-yard par 71 with Bentgrass greens.
We’ve got another 156-player field this week with a 36-hole cut. Chris Gotterup and Sam Burns are the co-betting favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook at +1800, while Maverick McNealy (+2000), Wyndham Clark (+2500) and Max Greyserman (+2800) round out the top of the odds board.
Below I have outlined my two favorite bets for the week.
Emiliano Grillo to win (+5000)
After a rough start to the season, Grillo has quietly rounded into form over the past two months. He’s coming off a missed cut at the Barracuda Championship, but before that, he posted a runner-up finish at the John Deere Classic and logged top-20s at both the U.S. Open and the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Excluding his hiccup at the Barracuda, the Argentine rates out as one of the best golfers in this field. Over his past 24 rounds, Grillo ranks fifth in Strokes Gained: Ball-Striking, fourth in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, and third in Total Strokes Gained—trailing only Chris Gotterup and Sam Burns in the latter category.
On top of his recent surge, Grillo also has a strong affinity for this event. He’s teed it up at the 3M Open every year since its inception, and his track record at TPC Twin Cities is among the best in the field. In four of his five appearances, he’s finished T10, T3, T2, and T24—a clear sign he knows how to navigate this course as well as anyone.
Grillo has been trending in the right direction for a while now and checks every box you’d want in an outright bet—strong recent form, proven course history, and a winning pedigree that includes victories at the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge and 2015 Frys.com Open.
Rico Hoey to win (+5500)
If putting weren’t part of the game, Hoey would be recognized among golf’s elite. He’s one of the best ball-strikers on the planet—just without the spotlight. Hoey ranks third on the PGA TOUR this season in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee, trailing only Scottie Scheffler and Aldrich Potgieter, and he’s 25th in Strokes Gained: Approach. Most impressively, he leads the Tour in overall ball-striking, a stat that combines total driving and greens in regulation—proof that from tee-to-green, few do it better.
Unfortunately for Hoey, putting is part of the game—and it’s where things unravel for him. He ranks 147th out of 148 qualifiers in this field in Strokes Gained: Putting, losing an average of 0.96 strokes per round on the greens. Simply put, he’s an abject disaster with the flat stick. And yet, he still manages to crack the first page of leaderboards on occasion. Hoey has already posted several strong finishes this season, including a T8 last week at the Barracuda Championship, a T7 at the Myrtle Beach Classic, and a T11 at the John Deere Classic.
In the five-year history of the 3M Open, players fitting Hoey’s archetype have emerged victorious—names like Cameron Champ, Tony Finau, and last year’s winner, Jhonattan Vegas. The blueprint’s clear: if Hoey can be even remotely decent on the greens—not historically awful—he’s got a real shot to contend this week.
