Monday night is a massive MLB slate with all 30 teams in action as new series start up to kick off the work week. Best Starting Pitcher Prop Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook
Michael McGreevy over 4.5 strikeouts (+120)
McGreevy has struggled in his MLB appearances this season, but the 25-year-old righty has a great shot to get at least five strikeouts on Monday night in Colorado against the Rockies.
McGreevy had exactly five strikeouts in each of his first three MLB starts this season, but he only had one strikeout in his most recent start with the Cardinals when he was knocked around by the Cubs for five runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. After totaling 16 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings while posting a 4.22 ERA and 3.37 FIP, he was sent back to the minors.
In Triple-A, McGreevy had 5+ strikeouts in three of his last four games and totaled 78 strikeouts in 75 innings in Louisville with a 3.72 ERA and 3.32 FIP.
Since he has to pitch at Coors Field in his return, taking him to go deep into the game or limit runs allowed seems like a high-risk option. Instead, I’m backing him to get his strikeouts even if the rarified air allows a few runs to be scored.
The Rockies have an MLB-high 26.5% K% on the season and a MLB-high 26.7% K% against righties. Over the last 30 days, they have struck out an average of 9.6 times per game. McGreevy could dominate and live up to his potential in his return or he could continue to struggle and adjust, but either way, I think he has a good shot to get at least five strikeouts. I love getting my starting pitcher prop bets underway with this plus-money play from Denver.
Colton Gordon over 2.5 earned runs allowed (-120)
Gordon will be making his first start since leaving with a head injury after a scary moment against the Rangers before the All-Star break. He passed his concussion tests and is ready to get back on the bump as the Astros take on the Diamondbacks in Arizona.
Before that start, he gave up nine runs on 16 hits across 10 1/3 innings against the Rockies and Guardians. Gordon’s ERA is up to 4.67 on the season and he has allowed 10 homers in his 11 games.
The Diamondbacks will be a tough test for the lefty Gordon, and they have come out of the All-Star break on fire with 22 runs in their first three games against the Cardinals. They’re one of my top MLB DFS stacks for the day, and I think they’ll get at least three earned runs off Gordon before he departs.
Shohei Ohtani under 3.5 strikeouts (-105)
Ohtani will continue his return to the mound with his sixth start of the season on Monday night as the Dodgers look to get back on track after being swept by the Brewers. The Dodgers are just 2-10 in their last 12 games, so they’ll look get back on track as they welcome in the Twins on Monday.
Ohtani has 10 strikeouts in his nine innings this season, increasing his workload in each game and building up to three innings in his last outing on the road against the Giants. He went over this strikeout line for the first time this season in that outing, recording four punchouts with 11 batters faced in San Francisco.
The Twins rank right around the league average with a 22.1% K%, significantly lower than the Giants. Against righties, they have been even better at just 21.4% this season. In the last nine games, the Twins have only struck out 62 times, averaging only 6.9 punchouts per contest. They’ve done well enough at strikeout suppression that I think they’ll be able to keep Shohei under this strikeout number on Monday.
Ohtani is still extremely limited and not guaranteed to pitch deep into the game, which is why I think this stays under. It’s not any reflection on how good Ohani’s stuff has been, because it has been excellent. Despite the hype, the sharp play here is to take the under based on the matchup and his limited workload.
