Minnesota rebounded with a 5–1 win Saturday, snapping Colorado’s shot at a rare series win. Joe Ryan now takes the ball with a chance to steady a Twins club still trailing Cleveland by 4.5 games in the AL Central. The Rockies, last in the NL West, lean on German Márquez to slow a Minnesota offense flashing barrels from Buxton and Larnach. One more Twins statement could tilt momentum back where it belongs. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Sunday baseball game between the Rockies and the Twins.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Rockies vs. Twins prediction, preview
Joe Ryan’s 2.72 ERA and 0.91 WHIP travel. They don’t flinch in altitude. His 28 percent strikeout rate and .176 average allowed to righties form a surgical edge against Colorado’s feeble bats. This is a command artist carving through baseball’s worst offense.
The Rockies rank bottom-five in average, OPS, and runs. Their .231/.292/.381 slash line is lifeless, even at Coors. Ryan’s 3.45 FIP and 3.68 xFIP confirm the dominance is earned. His fastball lands in the zone 65 percent of the time with runners in scoring position. Colorado’s hitters swing through 27 percent of offerings and rank fifth in strikeouts per game. Ryan won’t need Coors adjustments—he’ll own the zone from pitch one.
Marquez doesn’t survive this matchup. His 5.57 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and 1.14 HR/9 are volatile enough, but at Coors they become dynamite. His 34 percent line-drive rate invites barrels. Twins hitters bring them in bunches. Minnesota leads MLB in hard-hit rate over the last ten games. Buxton’s .584 slugging and 137 wRC+ hint at a breakout. Trevor Larnach’s 140 OPS+ stacks the threat. The Twins posted 1.28 barrels per plate appearance in July—they won’t miss much.
Twins vs. Rockies pick, best bet
Some will cling to Coors Field randomness. They’ll lean on Minnesota’s .249 road average or the ballpark’s 1.32 run factor. I torch that with Colorado’s 12–36 home record and 40–58 run-line mark. The Rockies pen carries a 5.93 SIERA at home. They implode late. Minnesota’s bullpen? Top ten in ERA. When Marquez exits, things get worse.
I spot Minnesota’s 8–2 ATS run behind Ryan when facing sub-.500 teams. I clock four covers in their last five meetings with the Rockies. I expose Marquez’s 40 percent zone rate against the Twins’ 52.9 percent O-Swing. That’s a recipe for deep counts, rallies, and crooked frames.
Best bet: Twins -1.5 (-165) vs. Rockies
