Christian Kirk holds one of the more fascinating outlooks heading into this fantasy football season. The 28-year-old was traded from the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Houston Texans in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick.
Kirk signed a significant four-year, $72 million deal with the Jaguars in 2022, and the decision to move on was mostly financially motivated. This move saved Jacksonville $10.4 million against the salary cap. Kirk agreed to restructure his deal with the Texans to convert $14.245 million of the deal from salary to a signing bonus. There is also $3 million in incentives in his contract if he can reach certain reception and yardage targets. Still in the prime of his career, the Texas A&M product could position himself for another massive payday if things go right this year in Houston.
Christian Kirk’s 2025 fantasy football outlook:
It will be a crowded wide receiver room in Houston that Kirk is fitting into, but he projects as the number two wide receiver. Nico Collins will be the clear WR1 and is coming off his second consecutive 1,000+ receiving yard season with 15 touchdowns over the past two seasons. Tank Dell’s availability is uncertain due to a gruesome dislocated knee and torn ACL, MCL, and LCL he suffered in Week 16. Houston also selected Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel in the first three rounds of this year’s NFL draft, who will each play a role in the passing game.
Kirk suffered a broken collarbone in Week 8 last season but showed some nice flashes. Across the first eight games, he tallied 27 receptions for 379 yards and a touchdown, including an eight-reception for 79-yard performance in Week 3. His 8.9 fantasy points per game, based on DraftKings scoring, ranked second among wide receivers. This was a career-worst mark for the seven-year veteran. He averaged at least 12.4 in three straight seasons and four of his last five before this. Kirk also had 787 yards and three touchdowns across 12 games in 2023 after having his first 1,000-yard receiving season and a career-high eight touchdowns during his first year in Jacksonville.
There has been plenty made about C.J. Stroud hitting a sophomore slump last year, but this is still a much better quarterback outlook than plenty of wide receivers can say. The bar was sky high based on his Rookie of the Year start in which he led the NFL with 273.9 passing yards per game and posted an NFL-best 1.0% interception rate. Even while taking a step back last year, Stroud threw for 3,727 yards and 20 touchdowns while steering the Texans to a 10-7 record.
During his best season, Christian Kirk averaged 14.8 fantasy points per game, which ranked 19th among wide receivers. While I don’t see him reaching this ceiling this season, this is a good spot for him to outperform the 143 ADP he is currently being drafted at in fantasy leagues. In most leagues, Kirk will be looked at as a primary reserve or a potential low-end starter. Expect him to outperform this mark and serve as a WR2 in deeper leagues. Competition for catches will be stiff, but there is plenty of motivation on Kirk’s side with his free agent outlook and Stroud aspiring to return to the quality he showed in his rookie year. Have Christian Kirk circled as a buy-low target, and this change of scenery could end up being beneficial after regressing in back-to-back seasons with the Jaguars.
