The 2025 NBA Summer League playoffs are here, with games set to tip off across Las Vegas all weekend. Tonight, two of the NBA’s most promising young clubs will meet in the Pistons and Spurs. While this isn’t exactly a star-studded matchup, both sides will have plenty of talent on the floor. Who will come out on top during Saturday’s inter-conference showdown?
DraftKings Sportsbook is listing the Pistons as two-point favorites and -125 on the moneyline. The Spurs are at +105 odds on the moneyline, and the game total is set at 179 points. Let’s break down both Summer League squads, players to watch, and a pick for the contest.
Pistons vs. Spurs preview, prediction
The biggest star of the summer for Detroit was Ron Holland. Selected with the fifth overall pick during the 2024 NBA Draft, last season was hit-and-miss for the rookie. However, he managed to put up 21.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals during three games in Vegas. The forward was so impressive that the Pistons have opted to rest him for the remainder of the Summer League. In Holland’s place, expect more work for Bobi Klintman. The 2024 second-rounder has been solid thus far (10.3 PPG, 8.3 RPG), but an expanded role should serve him well. Undrafted free agent Daniss Jenkis has been a surprise (17.0 PPG, 6.5 APG); the guard could be in line for a roster spot.
In fairness to the Pistons, this group has looked decent with and without Holland. With the wing out on Wednesday, they still managed to deliver a commanding 108-88 victory vs. the Heat. Klintman was the game’s leading scorer with 20 points, while Jenkins dished out ten assists. Through four Summer League games, none of Detroit’s opponents have reached 20 points.
Much like the Pistons, San Antonio will be without a budding star of its own. Dylan Harper, the second overall selection during June’s NBA Draft, is done for the rest of Summer League. That leaves the Spurs with an intriguing, albeit uncertain, collection of talent in Vegas. David Jones Garcia has carried this roster so far, averaging a team-leading 21.3 points per game on 51.7% shooting. However, the rest of this squad gets thin quickly. The next-highest scorer is Riley Minix, currently averaging 11.3 points per game. North Carolina alum Harrison Ingram follows him with 10.8 PPG. First round pick Carter Bryant has massive upside, but his statistics through four appearances haven’t been great. The power forward has generated just 7.0 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 27.3% from the field.
Pistons vs. Spurs Pick, Best Bet
Even by Summer League standards, both of these rosters are depleted. However, unlike San Antonio, the Pistons have played consistent defense throughout July. Even if Detroit has difficulty scoring, they should keep things close on the other end of the floor. That’s not ideal for a Spurs squad heavily dependent on Jones Garcia for offensive production.
