The Sparks are hosting the Mystics on Tuesday. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Los Angeles is favored by one-point and this game carries a total of 165.5 points.

Below, I break down the matchup between the Sparks and Mystics and give a pick for the game.

Sparks vs. Mystics preview, prediction

Tuesday is the first time the Sparks and Mystics have met this season and the game is the first of back-to-back tilts between the two clubs. Tonight’s matchup will be in Los Angeles and then these teams will go head-to-head again next Tuesday in Washington. Both the Sparks and Mystics have clean injury reports for Tuesday and both teams last competed this past Sunday.

While Kelsey Plum is the WNBA’s third-leading scorer at 20.1 PPG, her joining the Sparks hasn’t translated into much success for the team. Los Angeles is 7-14 and the club ranks 11th of the 13th WNBA teams in net rating. While the Sparks are at home Tuesday for this matchup vs. the Mystics, this isn’t great news for Los Angeles. This season, the Sparks have been the worst team in the league at home with a 2-8 record.

As for the Mystics, the club has had a better season than the Sparks. Washington is 11-10 and ranks eighth in net rating. Brittney Sykes leads the team with 17.5 PPG and Shakira Austin has been a huge boost for the Mystics. The center moved into Washington’s starting lineup 10 games ago and with her starting, the Mystics are 7-3 and rank second in the WNBA in defensive rating. Meanwhile, the Sparks rank dead last in defensive rating during this span.

Los Angeles’ only hope of winning nowadays is beating the opposing team in a shootout, but with a stout Washington defense on the other side, the Sparks’ offense should struggle Tuesday and the team will be in for a difficult test.

Sparks vs. Mystics pick, best bet

The Mystics are simply the better team and Los Angeles being a one-point favorite for this contest doesn’t make much sense. Yes, Los Angeles is the home team, but as previously mentioned, this hasn’t mattered much this season with the Sparks a league-worst 2-8 on their home floor.

Washington is just 4-7 on the road this season but the Mystics should take of business Tuesday night and tally a win over the Sparks.
