NBA Summer League continues tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada as the San Antonio Spurs square off with the Utah Jazz this evening at 8:30 p.m. EST. Both of these rosters deploy plenty of youth and showcase top picks from the 2025 NBA Draft — former Rutgers teammates Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey duel tonight, assuming the latter is healthy enough to play.
Here’s a Spurs vs. Jazz prediction and pick for tonight’s contest in the City of Sin.
Spurs vs. Jazz preview, prediction
The Spurs find their NBA squad pushing into the start of a contending window with a now-healthy Victor Wembanyama entering his third season, but they’re still adding and developing young talent. The Summer League roster includes Dylan Harper, the No. 2 overall pick who brings high-level rim pressure and defense in a jumbo guard’s package. He went for 16 points in 20 minutes during his Summer League debut and looks to put together another strong performance tonight.
Harper is complemented by Carter Bryant, the No. 14 selection in the draft. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged just 6.5 PPG and 4.1 rebounds off the bench in his lone season at Arizona but shot 37.1% from three while providing standout defense. He’s just 3-for-22 from beyond the arc this summer but tallied a handful of points and boards in each contest while defending No. 1 selection Cooper Flagg in one of those. Bryant is a project, but it would be nice to see a better game tonight. In the meantime, G-Leaguer David Jones-Garcia leads the Summer League Spurs with 24 points in his first game and 21 in his second. If the guard keeps this up, he may very well earn a roster spot with San Antonio.
The Jazz have more established NBA talent on their roster. Isaiah Collier showed plenty of promise at the pro level with 8.7 points and 6.3 assists last season while Kyle Filipowski posted averages of 9.6 points and 6.1 rebounds. Cody Williams had a less-impressive first year in the Association and will still have plenty to prove through the remainder of Summer League, so he needs to show out against lesser competition to try and stay in the good graces of the organization.
Unfortunately, No. 18 pick Walter Clayton Jr. suffered an injury during Utah’s last game and won’t play tonight, but No. 5 selection Ace Bailey is questionable with a hip issue that’s held him out for multiple games. If Bailey plays, he brings plenty of scoring prowess having averaged 17.6 PPG with 7.2 boards a night in his one-and-done year with Rutgers. His shot selection often appears questionable, but the 6-foot-8 wing can drop in buckets when needed.
Spurs vs. Jazz pick, best bet
The Spurs enter tonight’s contest with -142 odds to win on the Moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Jazz are listed at +120 on the Moneyline with a game total of 179.5.
Betting on Summer League games can be tricky given the often-sloppy play and abundance of inexperienced and lesser-known names. There’s opportunities for those who know what they’re looking at though.
The Spurs do enter this game with a 2-0 record halfway through the opening stages of the Las Vegas tournament. They blew out the Sixers in their first contest before a closer victory over the Mavericks in game two, so they have some momentum and genuinely look like a pretty solid Summer League team. It’s understandable that they’re favored to win, especially with the Jazz 0-2 coming off losses to the Hornets and Warriors.
I actually think this Utah team is better than what they’ve put on display thus far and that their experience should make a difference compared to a San Antonio squad comprised mainly of rookies. I don’t anticipate a blowout tonight, and while Clayton’s absence hurts the Jazz, they’re still better than their record shows. If Bailey suits up, this line should shift a little bit as his scoring punch adds an additional boost to the Jazz lineup. With that in mind, I’m taking Utah +2.5 here.
