After starting his NFL career with three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, WR Garrett Wilson is being rewarded with a four-year $130 million extension with the Jets that includes $90 million guaranteed, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Despite catching passes from seven different quarterbacks since his arrival in New York, Wilson has continued to produce no matter who is under center. The former Ohio State Buckeye will be catching passes from his eighth quarterback in four years in September, as the Jets added his former college teammate Justin Fields in free agency.

Wilson’s $32.5 million per year will make him the fifth-highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL. At just 24 years old, Wilson has now been locked in for the next six seasons and will remain in New York for the prime of his career. From a personal perspective, he will want to continue what he’s started. From a team perspective, it’s only up from here as his first three seasons in the NFL have involved a lot of losing. Now that Wilson’s deal is taken care of, he can focus on winning.

For the organization, it’s the first of four potential extensions from the 2022 NFL draft. New York selected Sauce Gardner, Jermaine Johnson and Breece Hall as well as Wilson in the first two rounds of the draft. All four players have been starters and big contributors, which puts the Jets in a tough spot in terms of negotiating extensions for all of them. Sauce Gardner will surely be the next domino to fall as the Jets try to lock down the best corner in the league, no pun intended.

DraftKings Sportsbook seems to have its doubts about Wilson this season. He is +125 to record 1,000 receiving yards for the fourth straight season and +100 to record five or more touchdowns. Wilson isn’t exactly a touchdown machine, with 14 in three seasons, but the 1,000-yard bet seems like good value.

Justin Fields is an upgrade on some of the terrible QB play he’s had over the years, and they will be reuniting their connection from Ohio State, which was very, very strong. The Jets may not win a lot of games this season, but if Wilson and Fields are both healthy, I expect them to be looking for each other more often than not.
