The 153rd Open Championship will be held at Royal Portrush Golf Club (par 71, 7,381 yards, fescue greens) in Portrush, Ireland. It is the fourth and final major championship of the season. This is the third time Royal Portrush has hosted the Open Championship, with the other two editions being in 1951 and 2019. At the 2019 Open Championship, Irishman Shane Lowry (-15) ran away with a six-shot victory. There will be 156 golfers competing at the 2025 Open Championship, and there will be an expanded cut, with the top-70 and ties advancing after the first two rounds.
Royal Portrush is a coastal links course that features narrow fairways, thick rough, small greens, 57 bunkers and water in play on two holes. Not only is Royal Portrush a longer links course, but being accurate at this venue is important to avoid the penalizing rough. As a result, targeting strong drivers is smart this week. More importantly, being dialed with your irons is a necessity at Royal Portrush. When Lowry won by six strokes at this par 71 in 2019, he led his field in SG APP and GIR.
As a traditional par 71, Royal Portrush features 11 par fours and only three par fives. Scoring on the par fours is most important for success at this links course, specifically the 400-450-yard par fours, as six of the 11 par fours at Royal Portush fall in this range. When Lowry dominated at this venue six years ago to take home the Claret Jug, he led his field in par four efficiency and in efficiency on the 400-450-yard par fours of Royal Portrush.

Sam Burns ($7,400) – Burns is tough to ignore at this cheap price tag. The five-time PGA TOUR winner has made 3-of-4 cuts at the Open Championship and is playing terrific golf right now. The LSU product has made 10 cuts in a row and eight of these finishes have come inside the top-30, most notably with a runner-up finish at the RBC Canadian Open and a T7 at the U.S. Open, which is Burns’ best major finish to date.
Burns has been a wizard with his flat stick this season, leading the PGA TOUR in SGP. Plus, the 28-year-old ranks top-35 in both total driving and par four performance. Burns has the tools to thrive at Royal Portrush, and he is underpriced at only $7,400.
Adam Scott ($7,300) – While Scott missed the cut at Royal Portrush in 2019, this was a product of one poor round. He is in prime position to have a strong showing in his second attempt at the par 71 this week. Scott finished T17th at last week’s Genesis Scottish Open, while gaining strokes in every major category. The former major champion closed the event with a 3-under 67 and has now made seven cuts in a row. Each of his last five finishes have been results of T31 or better and Scott’s ball striking has been superb, as he has gained strokes with both his driver and irons at three straight events.
In addition to the compelling form, Scott finished T10th at last year’s Open Championship at Royal Troon, which marked his 13th top-30 and 19th made cut in 24 starts at this major. Scott ranks 15th among this field in strokes gained per round at the Open Championship.
Ryan Fox ($7,100) – Fox is one of the best bargains on the board for the Open Championship. At this major, the professional out of New Zealand has made 6-of-8 cuts and his best Open finish notably is a T16 at Royal Portrush in 2019. Fox now returns to the par 71 in the midst of his best season on the PGA TOUR. Fox has made eight straight cuts with six top-30 finishes during this streak, including wins at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic and the RBC Canadian Open.
The 38-year-old is one of only five players on the PGA TOUR with multiple victories in 2025. Fox ranks 23rd in total strokes gained this season. He has made 10 cuts in a row at the major level with five of these finishes being top-30 results, and he is a strong bet for another top-30 finish this weekend.
Tom Kim ($6,600) – Kim has a real knack for links golf and that was on full display last week at the Genesis Scottish Open. After missing two consecutive cuts, the 23-year-old finished T17 at the Renaissance Club last week, while ranking fourth in SG APP for the event. Kim will now look to carry this momentum over to another links course in Royal Portrush and while he has never competed at this track before, Kim has made 2-of-3 cuts at the Open Championship, including a runner-up finish at Royal Liverpool two years ago.
Kim has been great at majors so far in his career, making 11-of-14 cuts with seven top-30 finishes. He is a sharp GPP play this week, that has top-20 upside and should come with low ownership.
