The Sparks are hosting the Sun on Sunday. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Los Angeles is favored by 10.5 points and this game carries a total of 164 points.

Below, I break down the matchup between the Sparks and the Sun and give a pick for the game.

Sparks vs. Sun preview, prediction

While Los Angeles has struggled this season with a 6-14 record, the Sparks have been far better than the Sun, who are a league-worst 3-17. Based on net rating, Los Angeles is 11th at -6.5, while Connecticut ranks dead last of the 13 WNBA teams at a laughable -20.8.

As you can see, the Sun have been by far the worst team in the league this season and Connecticut is currently without Marina Mabrey (knee), who ranks second for the team in scoring this season at 15.2 PPG. The Sun’s offense is a complete mess without Mabrey and with her inactive this season, Connecticut owns a terrible 1-6 record.

Outside of Cameron Brink (knee), who has yet to make her season debut after tearing her ACL last year, the Sparks are at full strength Sunday. Kelsey Plum leads the team with 19.9 PPG and Dearica Hamby and Azura Stevens have been effective, with 16.8 and 14.4 PPG, respectively.

The Sparks are an up-tempo team that ranks third in pace this season, compared to the Sun, who prefer to play slow and rank dead last in pace. With Mabrey sidelined, it’s going to be difficult for Connecticut to keep up with Los Angeles on its home floor, especially with the Sparks being the more rested squad. Connecticut last played this past Friday, while Los Angeles hasn’t competed since Thursday.

Sparks vs. Sun pick, best bet

Despite the Sparks’ subpar record, Los Angeles is the far superior team over the league-worst Sun and the Sparks should get a win on Sunday. However, there are concerns about Los Angeles covering this 10.5-point spread, as the team is 7-12-1 ATS and oddly 1-9 at home this season.

Backing the Sun to cover is risky, so instead of attacking this game with a spread bet, wagering on the contest’s 164-point O/U is smart and backing under this number is the right move. With Mabrey out for the last seven games, games for the Sun are only producing 158.7 PPG and five of these seven tilts have stayed under 164 points.

Best bet: Under 164 points (-108)
