The next generation of MLB stars await as the 2025 MLB Draft kicks off during All-Star weekend. Unlike other professional leagues, the MLB Draft takes place during the regular season since it revolves around the high school and college seasons.
The Washington Nationals own the No. 1 pick, two years after earning the No. 2 pick. Washington selected Dylan Crews second overall in the 2023 draft, and he’s already debuted with the MLB club. This year, the franchise can add another major piece to its rebuild.

Who is the favorite to go No. 1 in the 2025 MLB Draft?
The top pick of the 2025 MLB Draft is between two players. Kade Anderson and Ethan Holliday are the favorites to land No. 1 overall. Anderson is -220 to land No. 1, while Holliday is +175.
These two prospects have had considerably different paths to this moment. Anderson, a 21-year-old pitcher from LSU, posted a 3.18 ERA and 12-1 record in his sophomore season with the university. He struck out 180 batters in 119 innings as LSU won the 2025 College World Series.
Holliday is MLB Pipeline’s No. 1 draft prospect as an 18-year-old from Stillwater High School. He’s the son of former MLB All-Star Matt Holliday and brother of Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday, who went No. 1 overall out of high school in the 2022 MLB Draft.
Ethan Holliday won Gatorade’s Oklahoma Player of the Year for the 2024-25 season, posting a .611 average, 19 home runs, 64 RBIs and a 2.038 OPS. His team finished 25-8 on the season.
Aiva Arquette has the next best odds of landing No. 1 at +800, while Seth Hernandez, Liam Doyle and “Any Other Player” have +1500 odds.

Doyle is the favorite to land No. 2 overall. The Los Angeles Angels own this pick and would get a 21-year-old pitcher in Doyle, who struck out 164 in 95.2 innings with Tennessee this past season.
Anderson is the second favorite at +220, if he falls past the Nationals at No. 1.
Hernandez is the favorite at +130 odds to go No. 3 to the Seattle Mariners. He’s a high school pitcher from California. Arquette is a close second with +165 odds, and “Any Other Player” has +175 odds.
Although Holliday is the second favorite to land No. 1 overall to the Nationals, he’s the favorite to land No. 4 to the Rockies.
Holliday is an infielder, just like his brother, which could be a reason for him potentially slipping. Teams may prefer grabbing a pitcher rather than hitter, or they may just want an older prospect that’s proven himself against college competition.
There’s always a chance Holliday goes No. 2 or 3, but the odds favor him to land either No. 1 or 4.
